my boxing bag ;)

My fiancee has a heavy bag in the basement of the house she bought last winter, but I have yet to use it. I have been waiting until my hands were completely healed from the carpal tunnel surgeries before I have at the heavy bag with a barage of kick and punches.

in my youth I used a heavy bag...these days I use a lightweight (only 30 pounds :p) canvas boxing bag...but it does work off the stress in a healthy...if somewhat violent way...

you can take the woman outa the Corps....but not the Corps outa the woman ;)

I am sure a few well placed roundhouse kicks to the heavy bag will do the job with stress. If not I can always take it out on the universal weight machine I just bought...

eh...my leg work is down to walking and bicycling these days...

Despite the fact I have done neither karate or weight lifting in years my legs still remain very, very strong. I would rather kick stress out than punch it out.

My father get's a lot of it, I try not to call my friends and burden them to much but if they are unlucky enough to call and ask me how I am all bet's are off. I can be a bit of a complainer though, not in a constant pessimistic way but that at work and to people who don't know me I come off as not letting anything bother me and of course no one can go like that forever so at some point I really just need to let it out and then once I've said my piece I can move on. Things that don't go away with a casual venting session will often get brought to confession...

When I have a serious complaint, one that does need acting upon, I complain to God. Otherwise, I try to be careful what I complain to him about. There have been times when I have complained to God not thinking he was listening and he answered that complaint. For example when I was a freshman in college I complained to God that I was not a very patient person and what happened? A week or two later I found myself with a sprained ankle that required crutches. The University of Toledo has a HUGE campus and crutching arround the school should have been a lesson in patience. However, it was not. So exactly a year to the day later I found myself again on crutches and this time facing ankle surgery. Thank God I healed properly from the ligament tears and didn't need surgery. Thus I try to make sure I have something legit to whine to God about before I go complaining to him because you never know when he will act upon your complaints...

I understand how you feel about being careful on sending up complaints to God, Michael. I never felt comfortable with the idea of sending up anything but the most important.

The reason I ask is that today the last place I could vent a bit was shut off. I have some problem classes and I need to vent. But at times I've needed help and never got it. My boss said that it was because he couldn't tell that help was needed. So no venting unless I absolutely need help.

So that leaves me with no real release valve. Don't really have any friends I can sit down and talk to. Most are online and while I'm sure they would be happy to, there's something nice about sitting down and talking over a cup of coffee. The few others I have here are fair weather or aren't safe to confide in. I try to keep venting to my mother to an absolute minimum as she's got more than enough on her plate. Can't make it to church often so Father George is out.

I know what you mean - my GodPapa is about 400 miles away - but he's nearer than my SF :(

At least I can get GodPapa on the phone - and we do talk regularly - though I'll admit I warn him when I'm about to vent or weep on his shoulder [ virtual shoulder that is :) ] so he can get a cup of coffee to hand

I tend to vent to God and to the Theotokos, usually to vent and ask help in handling things the way I should. I will also talk to my priest about things, who is very fatherly and wise. I talk to my cat too (in fact, she has to help me decide whether I want AFLAC supplemental insurance by Friday, but I don't understand the Cat language very well). When I get stressed out at work, I will take a 10-minute break and take a walk, which tends to calm me down.

When things are driving you up the wall or stress has you and you just need to vent, who do you go and talk to?
my roomate/suitemates, my parents, my sister, my friends, CF... basically, anyone who will listen and try to make me feel better.

I have somewhat of a system that I have grown accustomed to when I am bugged by something and need to vent.

First I turn to God in prayer to seek His peace, then I am able to face the stressor head on leaning on the grace of God. I usually think and analyze it in detail in my mind first and then I go to my spouse to discuss the details. Journaling usually enters the picture at some point if I am terribly stressed about the issue so that I can hopefully gain a greater perspective of the situation and remove myself from the actual situation (to view it from a more 3rd party perspective). Usually this is all that is necessary for me to work through my stressors.

I used to use the internet until I realized it was not helping me in the long run. I have vented on this site one time (on the parenting board) since joining over a year ago.

If it's something serious, like something that has me depressed, anxious, or extremely angry, I talk to my spiritual father.

If it's something not so serious, or just annoying, I talk about it to my galpals.

Occasionally I use the internet, but I usually regret doing that whenever I've done it. :)

4 years ago when I went through my divorce when I really, really needed to vent and no one else would listen I would often vent to my dogs Oliver and Brittany. Once I met Jenn the Finn I would often vent to her, but there were times when she couldn't even feel what I was going through and that is when the dogs were at their best with listening to me rant.
