  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Shakespearean sign language? :)
I settled for English early modern insult over a German* early modern one. I thought it would be recognized by more posters.

* "Germany" didn't exist until 1871, when Otto von Bismarck unified the German lands into one country.

But didn't one of Shakespeare's characters yell at another "Do you bite your thumb at me!!?" Meaning, are you insulting me.
I've been wrong before, of course.

Because you are overreacting. There are real things to be upset about.

anyway, Coronation Street time.

I reported something I saw as obscene. The response to that report was the over reaction.

And I'm the cry baby. :)

At least we don't flip each other off at my parish.

Ah, the old "Would you do that if Jesus was in the room" or "would you do that at Church?" strawman. We don't have to always nbehave like we're in Church. I wouldn't pick my nose in Church, but picking one's nose is not a sin. I don't believe that displaying a 1-1/2" by 1-1/2" picture of a drawing of an extended middle finger is either.

Picking one's nose isn't the same as flipping someone the bird.

Strawman.

What is the same as flipping people the bird? Chances are I do that in real life too. I have no problems telling people to f off, nor do I take any issues with those who tell me to f off. Sometimes I need to hear that, and I appreciate people who call me out in real life.

Nose picking in Church isn't a strawman, it's an example that illustrates that not all non-Churchy behavior is wrong.
