The reformation is always referred to a the Protestant Reformation. But if you think about it, it was really the Roman Catholic Reformation, as they were all Roman Catholics. Even within the Roman Catholic Church over the years; they have had several mini reformations within their own ranks.

We have encountered the opposition, and the opposition is us

People who were in protest of Roman Catholic teachings, reformed into churches that more closelly follow the Holy Bible.

Reform: abandon evil practices, to make better by removing faults and defects, a correction of evils, to put a stop to abuses, etc. (Webster's college dictionary)

Luther never wanted to leave the Catholic Church and did not really envision the reformation as it turned out.

He simply wanted the Church to Love God and do right by its members

Read his 95 theses, they are all about the well being of the common man and the importance of God's grace and a personal relationship with God.

"It Christ, Stupid"

It not about a specially labelled first come first serve Church. People don't get it. The Church organization, history, structure, etc. etc. etc. is not what Christ is about or wants. It's not about oneside fits all church. It's not about we know better than you.

I'm sorry Lord for the things I've made it; It's all about you Jesus

Yes - Question is we are Christians, all the extra labeling is man made. When we elevate man's "groupings" over God's intent, we create artifical games. Man's Christian walk is a maturing process. That process is not own nor controlled by any church or group of people.

We are all Christians, before during and after any process that occur in the past or today.

No one other than Christ, owns the Church, lets not be foolish.

What is the hang up with using anyother term than Christian?

Eph writes...

Correct....most " Protestants" don't realise that they are just an "outgrowth" of the Roman Branch of the Christian Church....

I mean just try telling a KJV Only Bible Believin' Southern Baptist....that they really ARE an offshoot of their "mother" Church..and You'll be dunked under by them.....till you stop struggling....! LOL

I agree, it seems that most Christians are creatures of the social and geographical aspects of their "flavor" of Christianity. Churches have become more like Football teams. People indentify more with their Christian Sports Franchisee. People are more concern with being a  "fan" of a particular flavor of Christianity, than do they with having a singular faith in Jesus Christ.

IN YOUR opinion.

Yes there were errors and abuses within the catholic church, the church itself admitted such and corrected most of those errors in the years before and after 1517.  But, to claim that the likes of calvin and knox created churches which "more closely follow the Holy Bible," is YOUR opinion. :) History shows what the early church believed and taught.  Men such as John Newman through a study of history, rejected many protestant teachings as spurious.

WHAT MORE, :) I remind you that the RCC is not the only ancient church.  The Eastern Rite Churches such as the coptic and the Orthodox all share in common many of the beliefs of the ancient Christian church.  Its funny that not until the late middle ages did anyone even think to reject the Doctrine of the Real Presence.

Christianity is no longer a "Faith" but rather has become a "Passtime" of rehashing someone's else teachings pass down from men and books. And in the end all of these teachings have no impact on one's daily Christian Walk or our salvation.

Christianity is 99% perspiration and 1% faith.

I believe that church denominations are simply a clever way devised by Satan to devide Christians and turn them against each other.

"I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought."   (1 Corinthians 1:10)

I agree that it should not devide us like it did in the past, but not agreeing isn't a bad thing, in reminds us to think, study and be prepared for questions and to give testimony to the light that shines within us.

As Christians we would rather stay in the classroom and discuss who, what, where, when and how than to actually have to apply what we know to be true and put it into practice. We have become a society of Professional Christian Students and Intellectuals who have become trapped by the teachings of man rather than the Love of God.
