CBS just aired the new movie The Ten Commandments. I am wondering who saw it and do you favor the old classic with Charlston Heston or the new one? In the poll I am also throwing in The Prince of Egypt for variety.

I favored the classic version.

I'll bet no one is aware there was a silent 1923 version. I kind of liked that one. I had the privilege of taping that off AMC several years back when it had their middle-of-the-night "Silent Sunrise" special.

Yes.... I'm the "odd duck" here!

The Cecil B DeMille version is so grounded in the era it was made. Garish colors, film noir antagonists, mandatory dancing girl scene.

The new one was interesting. Were was the pillar of fire and column of smoke guiding them? I only saw it once, before they got to the sea.

I appreciated Moses talks to (at) God and also his finally getting it (about God's name "I am") while in the egyptian guard outpost ruin.

Cecil B. DeMille made the silent version, as well.

Turner - yes as in Ted Turner - made one too.

It's called Moses and stars Ben Kingsley.

It's great and really sticks to the Biblical account.

There are actually several others about other Biblical people:

Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, David, and others I know I'm forgetting off the top of my head.

I LOVE the one about Joseph.

Check them out!

I think I remember seeing some of those ones a few years back.

Wow I didn't know there was a silent one done !! I would have included it in the poll. At my age, I don't know how I missed it. While silent movies were not at their height, surely during my childhood they were still very popular. Missed that one :holy:

I also agree that Cecil B. did a wonderful job in his generation that can't be duplicated. The feel was just not there in the new one for me.

In the Prince of Egypt...
I loved the parting of the Red Sea scene...the graphics were awesome, you could see the whales and fishes swimming in the sides as the Hebrews passed through. Real or imagined...it was awesome and my kids loved it too.

OH...thanks for the heads up on Amazon.com, I will check that out and I may order the series. I love bible stories on film.

**Another question for those following this thread**

Have you ever wondered why they play The Ten Commandments at Easter?? I mean its not about Moses. Its about Jesus and now there are many great films available like The Passion of the Christ, Jesus of Nazerath (just to name two great ones).
I am aware that Easter itself was a pagan holiday and all of that ;) but in the tradition of things it seems it would be more approperate for something on the risen Saviour !!

I think it has more to do with the passover season that happens at around easter time
