Fedora 9 is a knockout - I have been considering switching to Fedora 9......but I have gotten so used to ubuntu that I am reluctant.Yep, me too...Fedora is easily my favorite distro, with Ubuntu a strong second.
Have you checked out Fedora 9 yet?
One thing I find interesting is how Linux users seem to far outnumber Mac users.
I think this is where Apple makes a huge mistake..... Realistically, they will never supplant Microsoft. Probably will never even come close to it.
Then, look at Linux. I think that the only things holding Linux back from knocking Apple off as Number 2 is the lack of enough quality third party software, and maybe a more modern, attractive design.
Linux is a much bigger threat to Apple than Microsoft is (given that M$ has a stranglehold on #1, everyone else is fighting for runner up).
Linux is in no way a threat to Apple. The reason there is no third party software for Linux is because any companies based on profit are destroyed by piracy.
Linux is a hobby, nothing more.
Not really. There are some really good server side solutions based on Linux. Not to mention more proprietary hardware that uses a boiled down Linux version to do some small task.
Though for end users, yes. So far it is primarily a hobby OS.
I hope that changes though. I would love to see more competition and more choices in the IT world. The big corporations have too much might.
Servers are another matter entirely, of course. Linux is great in that regard- but then, any Unix system is.
Actually, not really. Mac OS X is not a good server OS. But it's still Unix. It is, however, a great desktop OS.
I'm not really sure on what basis you are saying it is bad for serving.
