This isn't necessarily the answer you are looking for, but denominations are as useful as religion in general. If you don't know which one is "right" find the one that fits. That's the right one.

Otherwise, understand that as a Christian you have surrendered to Christ. what does that mean ultimately? Well, what did Jesus say and do? Go and do likewise.

I was born and raised Southern Baptist and have since studied all the world's great religions at length. At first glance it might seem an obsession. I prefer to think of it as a calling. Anyway, I have come to realize that loving God full and serving others is the culmination of EVERY major religion on the planet.

I wish you success in your endeavor to find what is right for you. God loves you beyond your wildest dreams and he's here, regardless of where "here" ends up.

... the Lutheran and Catholic Churches were the best. This is my opinion...get over yourself.

This is an example of why denominations are as useful as religions in general. Muslims, Christians, and Jews have been killing each other over God since the beginning of their systems of belief. Denominations within the Christian faith are just the same fight turned down a notch.

We are ONE. Love one another.

I have been a Christian for a couple years now.. and I am still confused by all of the denominations.
Maybe by reading what everyone is saying it can clear up why there are so many denominations.
There seem to be so many.. Which one is right?
I think a better question would be which one or ones are accepted by Christ. We have many different churches but they can all be accepted by God as his children. God can allow for unique differences between the believers and still accept each one's faith. You may read Romans 14 to get an idea of what I mean.
I know that I need to study Christian history and find these answers myself.. but just wondering if anybody would be able to share general information or how they were able to determine which denomination they were.
I don't know if studying the history of the Churches will help much. The Holy Spirit should be our guide and seek its help in finding the Church which God wants you to fellowship within.

Happy hunting and God Bless
p.s. Don't listen to what most people say about churches that they don't belong to because the information will most likely be incorrect.

Dear ObeyGODCommandments,

Christ Jesus is the Heavenly Head of the Church.

And the Body of Christ is the Church.

Christ commanded Peter 3x (reinstating him after his threefold denial) to Pastor His Flock, His Sheepfold. (St. John 21)
Peter, the first Bishop of Rome, was crucified upside down on an inverted cross (because he said he was not worthy to die like his Master) ... in the city of Rome was he crucified in this way.

It is misleading to say without distinction that Christ is the Church as a way to persuade others to NOT seek the Church that Jesus Himself founded. You are not helping anybody and you are certainly not helping yourself.

I invite you to have a more sober attitude, as Sacred Writing encourages us to have. And to judge justly (and not according to appearances) as Jesus commands us to.

Jesus promised that the gates of Hell would not prevail against His Church. Would you venture to doubt this or to contradict it? ? ?

God bless you.

Forgive me if my post is innappropriate, or not what you're looking for, but your original post poses a question asked by Joseph Smith , the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. To read his story search Joseph Smith History at lds.org (I'd post the link, but I'm a newbie!)
Good luck with your search! For me, prayer and scripture study has always been the catalyst for God leading me to the truth.

This is a true statement. In order to find the "true religion", you need to find the religion that hits all the points and doctrines within the bible. As a Seventh Day Adventist, we believe that the bible is the ultimate authority on Earth seeing as it is the Word of God. Then come the prophets and then the leaders of the church. The leaders of the church and prophets are all humans, sinners. But the Word of God is from God Himself.

Albion. Wordsoflife is lutheran, meaning we hold true the creeds, are liturgical and see to it as a necessity that we do fellowship for in church we have the eucharist. He wasnt trying to say to avoid church.

My answer to the OP would be lutheran missouri synod or wisconsin synod because I truely believe lutheranism is biblical. With that said I would recommdend any sacramemtal church. Lutheran, orthodox, catholic etc...

As I recall, he said that he actually considers himself to be a Catholic who's attending a Lutheran church because of family. Anyway, that was a long time ago and I don't recall the details of the conversation. I do believe, though, that the thread started out to be about which denomination is "right," not which ones would "do."

go to destinedtoberevealed dot com it might answer a few questions for you

That isn't a website that compares denominations. It's website that promotes a certain set of beliefs in a non-denominational way.

EXACTLY IT IS A GUIDE TO UNDERSTANDING THE WORD NOTICE MOST OF THE CONTENT IS NOT THE WRITERS WORD BUT THE WORD OF GOD SIMPLE HUH

FORGET ABOUT DENOMINATIOINS MOST ARE MAN CENTERED AND WILLL LEAD TO CONFUSION AND APATHY

Yeh, right. However, the OP asked us for information leading to knowing the difference between denominations.

This forum, in fact, is "Denomination-specific" Theology.

Jesus himself said

Luke 16:10-“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities."

and

Luke 6:46-" “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?"

Look for whoever is "faithful in little things".

Hi Christianmom, this short series may be useful. Click on 9 Marks Of A Healthy Church. This will help you as you look at both denominations and, perhaps what is most important, the individual churches that are part or these denominations (since you are not, in the end, going to attend a "denomination", right .. )

In all seriousness, without any levity, and to the point - the answer is - The prophetically called forth remnant of God, the Seventh Day Adventist movement.

Now, if you desire to understand that answer, without any assumptions preempting, and why it is the Truth of the matter, then let us consider the scriptures together, even without distractions.
