Which is better for a casual gamer: EQ2 or WoW

I really enjoy MMORPGs but have frequently been frustrated at how difficult it is to make progress when you have a limited time to play.

I have heard WoW has an experience booster that gets longer the greater the time between logins, but I have also heard EQ2 was built for the crowd of people who couldn't commit to the amount of time it takes to get anywhere in the original EQ.

Has anyone played both? Thoughts?

For anyone who has played one, how well do you think the game would work for a casual gamer (say, six hours a week)?

I know people can be rather 'evangelical' in their zeal for competing games in the same genre, so some perspective would be appreciated. :)

Thanks!!

I would venture to say that WOW is more what you're looking for. I don't have any experience with EQ2 but I played EQ for years. If EQ2 is anything like the 1st, it takes so much time and dedication to really enjoy the game itself. If you join a guild, you're expected to log in at least once every couple of days to participate, etc. From the sounds of it, WOW is more laid back and doesn't require as much of your time. Have fun :) Hope you find the right one.

WoW for a more casual gamer. I did betas for both and both seem nice but EQ2 just didn't grab me the way WoW did. I never did any serious levelling in EQ2 but lvls definately come easier in WoW than any other MMORPG I've ever played.

MMORPGs tend to cater to hardcore gamers.

They also tend to eat up your free time. Everquest is also know as Evercrack due to its addictive qualities.

I'd go for WoW. I'm a bit of a Blizzard fanboy though, so I'm a bit biased.

Ultima Online. :help:
Haha that's a good one. OOOoooOOOooo

Did WoW get released already??? Hmmm... EQ2 is supposed to be more casual friendly compared to EQ but I haven't played EQ2 yet. Now on the other hand MEO Middle-earth Online is supposed to be very casual gamer friendly. Catch is that it wont be released until... sometime next year *shrugs*. I do plan on playing that for sure and will be forming a Christian guild before launch. But yeah, a casual gamers mmorpg would be good.

What is a MUD?

There you go, all you need to search for a casual-friendly multiplayer online roleplaying game. There are also Christian MUDs that I've played on...though I don't know if they're still active.

Well AotC was one but I never got into that one. LoJ http://members.lojmud.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi is pretty good, and still active as far as I know, but not many people play it since it's text and most people want to play GMUD's. There was a third but there was a dispute about property rights and the owner decided to delete the project.

MUDs are the reason my typing skills are above average. You probably won't be using your mouse to play these games unless you get a MUD client.

I prefer Zmud or MudMaster.

They're difficult to get into, but very addictive once you learn how to play.

They say Guild Wars is being made for the casual gamer.

Id have to say the best MMO for someone who cant spend >6 hours a day is City of Heroes, cause you can solo the entire way if you want, but its also real quick and easy to join groups and do quests.
Well depends what you are doing I suppose. If you are doing pick-up Task Forces then forget it heh that is a dedicated 12+ hours. So sure you can solo but you'll never be able to do TF's at higher levels unless you play in teams or supergroups so you can break the TF into a nightly schedule.

whether solo or teaming it will take you a very very long time to get a char into the high levels for the uber content. I had an Illusion/Radiation Controller and it took me longer to level that char than it did for me to level my Ranger in EverQuest.

It's a good action mmo game though. It's a bit more casual gamer friendlier than EQ since CoH has no gear or anything really. Game was a bit too cartoonish for me, but I guess that's what the game is about. Alot of people do solo and I don't care much for solo mmorpg's either. CoH has great moving/fighting action though.

Yeah I don't even plan on trying WoW. I just don't care much for blizzard. Blizzard has always made dark cartoonish games and catered to 12 year olds. I have found some of Blizzards past game content personally disturbing from a Christian perspective. All the rage I guess...

I'll probably pick up WoW in the morning depending on how much our Christmas bonus is that we are supposed to get tonight.

But it really depends on how much it is. My first priority is KOTOR 2 so if it's small, that's all I'll get and WoW will just have to wait.
