i'm kind of shocked and curious that 'black people' is so popular a choice... why?

maybe i'm the only person here who feels this way, but does anybody else think the media is trying to promote hostility between blacks and hispanics that really isn't there? all of a sudden there are all of these 'studies' and news 'reports' from actual respected media about black and latino violence, and people are asking why this occurs but nobody asks if it really does occur...

i honestly never felt safer than when i was in college and used to jog through harlem at 9pm... i knew almost everybody and they all knew me, i visited all the old people and brought them bread and pastries, tutored a lot of the high school kids and harped on the ones my age to go to Church on sunday. they loved it... there wasn't a thug in new york that didn't remember me as the girl teaching their younger brother algebra, bringing their grandparents bagels or talking to their little sisters about abstinence. i felt safe because i knew everybody was watching me and looking for me and looking out for me, so that if anything happened i would be okay.

columbia campus on the other hand was very dangerous for me... i am still being stalked by three students. one of the most astonishing things about college is how little they take sexual assault and harassment seriously... not the administration itself, but the other students and colleagues. and in the end if your fellow classmates don't care to take the issue seriously then there is very little the administration can do...

also, about this ridiculous poll... aside from the issue of racism not belonging to any particular group i just wanted to point out 'muslims' isn't a race and hispanics is exclusive toward non spanish speaking latinos... but even latino is not a race... there are mestizo latinos, black latinos, native american latinos and white (criollo) latinos like me. im half french anyway... most of the time people think im italian...

'latino' kind of assumes a uniformity of culture, color and ethnic background that doesn't truly exist about the only thing latinos have in common is some connection to americas south of the united states... and even then their connection can range from strong to extremely tenuous.

i really think you have some mixed up ideas about ethnic groups... these designations do not matter, you should look past them...

I'm not racist, but Others tend to really be exclusive of the rest of us, don't you agree? I have an Other friend and a pen pal who's half-Other, so it's not like I'm talking about the whole race. It's just in general they tend to hang out with each other and talk down to whites, blacks, Asians, and Hispanics.

Interesting. I was taught that racism and racial prejudice are two different things. For example white supremacists would be racists, but the common belief among Japanese people that blacks have natural rhythm would be racial prejudice.

Would you say that claiming that Asians have a different digestive capabilities than Caucasians is racist, even though scientific research has found this to be true?

I am not Arabic but no, I've never been in the Middle East or "Arab Country". What does this have to do anything?
