  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My answer is both the american rag and the confederate rag, which both represent racism, white supremacy, and oppression to me.

The only differences I can see between the two is that the american rag also represents genocide and mass destruction.

Either flag would offend me if flying over a US government building, not because of the flag itself, but because of the evil in the hearts of the men who would want either flying over a US government building.

If in the museums where they belong, neither offends me.

Indeed -- conquered enemies don't get to fly their flags over the victors' country -- it's counter-intuitive, don't you think?

Offended is a term too overused to retain any measure of relevancy. I've always said that if I urinated on someones face then they would be offended but to see something that others point out as meaning something wrong, that is not offensive. I would be more offended that someone would think so little of my ability to think that they would try and tell me what is and is not worthy of me researching it.

Both of these flags can be seen in verious ways and both have been praised and demonized by various groups, but to me they are significant for their historical value. They need to be preserved so that no man will ever forget what they stood for. We can not afford to remove them from the public consciousness lest we forget their look and appeal to those who carried them and fail to recognize them in their next reincarnation

That was not the choice.

Lol, people so reluctant to say the Soviet flag.
I would expect most people to find the Soviet flag more offensive because socialism enslaves all.. However, I could see Americans finding the Confederate flag more offensive because it represents the destruction of the Union.

So, which flag offends your sensibilities and to you is a greater symbol of evil? Feel free to elaborate on your reasoning.

I chose neither. Flags mean nothing to God, they mean nothing to me. The hype about it is a silly passing fad

The Soviet flag, I suppose. I think because it actually represented a very real menace during my lifetime.
Thanks.

I never had any interest in flags, and certainly none of them offends me. It is the people who wave the flag, or wrap themselves in the flag who I find offense....whichever flag that may be.
