Even though it is an offshoot of a huge corporate label, I'd say Nonesuch.

Jade Tree may have Pedro the Lion, the Promise Ring, Cap N Jazz, Joan of Arc, et cetera, but Nonesuch trumps all of those since two as-close-to-perfect-as-they-come records were released on it: Brian Wilson's SMiLE (which I will see performed live next week) and Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

Hmm,

Joan of Arc, Cap N Jazz, or the Promise Ring?

Neither. Cigars. Or pipes. They smell better. (I don't actually smoke much though)

*Gasp* I can't believe you've never heard of any of them. The Promise Ring's album Nothing Feels Good basically started the newest wave of the "emo" trend, though the album was more poppy punk (not the bad kind, the good kind that you seldom hear any more). And Joan of Arc and Cap N Jazz are the brainchildren of the Kinsellas brothers -- some really interesting music and lyrics, though it usually takes some getting used to as it is pretty different.

I do agree that pipes are a bit of alright, but both Slims and GT Ones are hella-cool.

I'll never catch up on music. :sigh:

I am loathe to say it, but Modest Mouse.

and *edit*... Yo La Tengo... just for their version on Nuclear War with the children's choir.

I agree about Nonesuch... their roster is just marvelous. I love Laura Viers, Sam Phillips, SMiLE, many of the world music cds they release are amazing, and they release most of freakin' STEVE REICH's stuff. Oh, and Wilco ain't too shabby, either.

Damn, that's a good one. I'll say Modest Mouse because I've been enraptured with Good News For People Who Love Bad News lately. I hope Built To Spill will forgive me.

It's all about "The Moon and Antarctica" and "Lonesome Crowded West". If you don't have these albums, I would consider myself a bad friend.

Why's that?

I laugh so hard every time I hear that. :)

Heh. I have them. But I have enjoyed them for awhile. It wasn't until recently that I REALLY started liking GNFPWLBN.

Cake or pie?
I'm all about Boston Creme Pie, which is paradoxically both a pie and a cake. So, I guess my answer is both.

Kurt Vonnegut or Douglas Adams?

Phil, you pain me. Well, my lifelong obsession has been Douglas Adams. So I'll choose him. Even though Vonnegut's "Welcome To The Monkey House" was the best short story collection I ever read. (Though, honestly, the full length novels from him I read were anti-climatic). So yeah. Definitely Douglas.
