First to come to mind...Gill's Complete Body of Doctrine and Practical Divinity, second, Bavink's Dogmatics.

The Doctrine of Absolute Predestination by Zanchius
Exposition of the 1689, Waldron
The Existence and Attributes of God by Charnock
The Christian in Complete Armour by Gurnall
The Divine Covenants by Pink

The list is really, really long.

Which books are the cream of Reformed writing that you would recommend to someone who already accepts the basic Reformed faith but wants to go deeper? Or that you would consider a must-read for every Reformed believer?
You won't go wrong with Berkhof's Systematic Theology. It is a comprehensive treatment of all major aspects of Reformed doctrine and I consider it a must read.

My first Reformed book , bought at Greenbelt Christian festival 1983 , I still read it ;

Outlines
of theology (1877). Author: Hodge, Archibald Alexander, 1823-1886.

Berkhof's Systematic Theology is also a must read .

Alan Sell , The Great Debate (very compelling , I wore my copy out)

Bavinck , The Doctrine Of God (awesome read)

John Calvin , The eternal Predestination of God (the best)

Martin Luther ; The Bondage Of The Will (great read)

A W Pink , The Sovereignty of God (strong work)

A w Pink , Eternal Security (the best work on this subject)

A W Pink , Studies in The Scriptures

Also "If God is Good" by Randy Alcorn blew me away...

I've read some of his novels - have "Heaven" on my shelf, but haven't read it. Is he reformed? (I've never researched Alcorn enough to be able to say yes or no.)

Which aspect of the Reformed faith are you referring to? Do you mean Reformed soteriology, or Biblical theology, eschatology, ecclesiology, etc...?

I suppose any of them really. Just books that would be helpful for a regular Refomed believer. Really I started this thread because, although I've been a calvinist for a couple of years now I feel that I only have a superficial grasp of theology and was wondering which books (because someone can only read and buy so many books) people here would recommend as being the best and of lasting value.

What does it say about baptism? That is an important issue to me.

he's Paedobaptist , as are most Reformed Theologians .

If you wan't the
credo-baptist position look elswhere , ie , Gill , Schreiner , Alexander Carson (1776-1844) etc

remember both sides believe in Covenant Theology !

We know "Reformed" has been hijacked by modern Baptists so if you want "Reformed" Baptist works you'll have to read "Particular or Strict and Particular" Baptist works of the past.

Add John Dagg to the list.

Wow - it's really nice to hear a Baptist actually make that distinction. In the recent past it's seemed as though nobody actually understood this. Historically, Reformed refers to a specific confessional tradition whereas the Calvinistic Baptists usually identified themselves as strict and particular.

He's definitely paedo but who cares you should read his argument on it. Whether you find him persuasive or not he's always someone good to look at.

I like reading "good" books that I disagree with. Actually if anyone can tell me the best baptist argument for credoism I would really appreciate it.

If you're looking for an overview of theology from a Reformed Baptist viewpoint, Wayne Grudem's Systematic Theology is great. It's easy to read, but in depth, and gives a lot of suggestions for further reading.

ReformedChapin,
The best credo-baptist argument I know of offhand is that all of those baptized in the scriptures were mentioned as having done so after believing, and that it is a symbol of beginning the Christian life, so should be restricted to those old enough to make a genuine profession of faith. We see baptism as a way to identify with the burial & resurrection of Christ, which we share as believers, rather than baptizing our children into the covenant before they are old enough to believe.
