This is silly, the forum was closed quite awhile back, why are you leaving now?

CF is slowly turning into RaptureReady forums with its Big Brother moderating. Whether CF realizes it or not (they probably just don't care or managed to convince themselves it's somehow rightous), they are promoting intellecutal inbreeding of bad ideas by not allowing factual errors or logical fallacies to be pointed out in the arguments of believers.

I haven't visited this site much since the redesign but I'd like to add a note based on what I remember from four to six years back. I have always been quite grateful that the site founder welcomed nonbelievers to the extent that he gave all the major world religions their own icons. The continued existence of this forum is also a testament to that goodwill. I think the above posts may underestimate the wisdom that allows for the continued presence of non-Christians on an overwhelmingly American Christian forum.

That being said I am not surprised that the apologetics forum was closed. You can cynically put it as stated above, but really it was a home for chaos even six years ago and that's how IIDB's CF Survivors thread originally started. Christianity is a religion that continues to have a unique, competitive relationship with human reason. It may be cliched to tell people to go read Augustine and so forth, and many atheists dispute that it is useful, but hardly anyone in the Apologetics forum was actually versed in non-evangelical theology and it is only through that study that you begin to understand how to explain Christianity on an intellectual level. As you correctly understand having multiple Christians love bomb individual non-believers is a much easier practice to moderate and does not need much intellectual skill to participate in.

Personally I recommend you find a Tenrikyo forum and try to start a debate there. Unfortunately you may have to learn Japanese first.

I'm not too surprised GA was shut down. I mean, let's face it, it was a perpetual debate forum (kinda like this one used to be too) and was probably a nightmare to try to moderate. I wouldn't be surprised if it was shut down just to avoid having staff burnout.

I modded it for quite a while and it wasn't as bad as politics or ethics and morality in my experience. The closing of it was one of the reasons I left staff. I could no longer support the direction the advisers were taking the site. I can't support a policy that seeks to stifle honest seeking of truth just because people are coming to different conclusions than what the powers that be think is the truth.

I personally think all the division both within the church and between the church and other faiths (and those of no faith) is not what we should endeavor for.

Maybe that's why so much blasphemy and ad hominems went unchecked. Ya think that's the real reason many left CF? They can't blaspheme their Creator like they used to? Of the two men who were crucified with Jesus, which one of the two would have left CF, and which one would have stayed?

I'm not saying GA was all puppies and sunshine. I'm saying it wasn't as bad as E&M or Politics. The reason it was closed is because the conversions were going the wrong way. Thus, we had such dialogue pushed towards a format in which only one non christian could participate at a time. It's a fairly transparent attempt to switch from an interfaith discussion to a christian recruitment tool.
