I'm very happy where I am thank you. I am well aware of the spiritual gifts, and as a charismatic Catholic, go to meetings where they are used for our edification and teaching. (I received the gift of tongues around 2 years ago, and have experienced the gift of prophecy and a word of knowledge on occassions, though I am still getting used to having the confidence to use those gifts. The Holy Spirit is a patient teacher). However, I prefer my 'service' to one devoted to the worship of God(not that yours isn't, though tea seems an odd thing to advertise as a selling point for a church!), where I can receive Jesus physically. Apart from the use of the gifts at Mass and communion only on Sundays, the only difference I noticed is the issue of baptism. I prefer to stick with a church where, when I have children, the church will be happy to receive them as Christians too, just like the Bible did. The apostles did not just baptise believers, but their households too.... but this is not the place for debate or discussion.NJA said:Addaperle - or you could try a church like the one in the NT where all members are baptised as believers and all have received the Spirit, speaking in tongues (see Acts 2v4, 33, 39; 10v44-48, 11v14-18). And where meetings give all the opportunity of receiving and giving , "the gifts":-
choruses/spiritual songs
tesimony by someone of what God has done for them
talk from the bible
hymn & communion (sunday meetings only)
2 or 3 gifts of tongues, each with interpretation
2 or 3 prophecies
prayer line (gifts of healing and faith)
closing song/notices
tea
. . . ."all things done decently and in order", "the spirit of the
prophets are subject to the prophets", God does not "take people over" - as detailed in 1 Corinthians 14
Peace be with you,
Clare xx
