• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do they get them from Wal-Mart, Kroger, Food Lion, or another place?
Farmer's market...

Brought to you by America's mushroom council.

I'm one of those rare atheists who don't have any morals.
I have values, and empathy, I also have wants and needs, oh, and a reputation which I am spending a lifetime building...

But belief in what is right and what is wrong is just a bit too vague for me. Life isn't black and white, can't just label things as right/wrong, and I don't expect my values to be the same as others' values.

Interesting. Sounds very sensible and noble. However, beyond theoretical declarations, what do you think your life is? Is there a goal/goals for your living? What is it (are they)?

Oh, sorry to have gone off topic, I mis-understood the thread.
I get my mushrooms from the supermarket.

There is no intrinsic goal or purpose for my life.
My life is what I make of it.
I have lots of different goals, (short term, medium, long term)
I want to get better at playing guitar.
I want to get better at my chosen profession.
I want to help develop my kids academically, intellectually, develop their confidence, develop their sense of self, their ability to become independent some day.
I want to make my wife happy.
I want to explore the world and cultures and human nature.
I want to learn and enjoy life.

No problem.

Great! If you allow me to sum up these goals, it's to enjoy life, bring up good kids, make wife happy, learn about the world.

If you could choose just one biggest or most important goal, or if to put it into most general terms, what would it be?

"bring up good kids" isn't quite the words I'd use.
I want my kids to become independent, to be able to navigate and thrive throughout society and their lives. It's not my intent to bestow upon them what is good and what is not good. That they can decide for themselves, if they must, I'm giving them tools, not answers.

What is my biggest or most important goal?
I don't think I can simplify my life down into just a single goal. Life is complex and often full of conflicts and choices. I do, however value my health and well being and the health and well being of my immediate family very highly. Perhaps that is my foremost goal, to be in a state of health with a positive looking future for myself and immediate family, if these are sufficiently taken care of then I can indulge in other goals.
