• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Again, where did you get this idea? It ain't from the Bible.

Psalm 37:7
Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.

Psalm 46:10
He says, "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

Something that we had all figured out at the end of reading your first post. ^_^
"We" Do you have in your imagination that everyone else on this thread/forum are your best buddies and are with you there in you home, all laughing with you? You must be very deluded. They are no more for or against you than the neighbours cat.

Psalm 46:10
He says, "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

This does not say "be still, apostles, and know that I am God."

This is just a general instruction, from the OT to all Jews, and people of good will. Yes, it is still valid for today, but there is nothing in either quote about Jesus talking to the Apostles.

Wow! So you think it was good for every time except for when Peter got lot-casting happy?

Are you recommending that when someone starts swinging wildly because another has dared to say that he disagrees with something that's been posted...the best approach would be to let it pass unanswered?

That may seem predictable to you. However, the facts are otherwise. You can look around and see that it's quite one-sided. On this very thread, for example, I have been told that my church gave up Apostolic Succession and that Henry VIII founded it, neither of which is true. Look and see how I responded. Did I call names or tell the other person he ought to get off the forums, etc.? No. And I'm not praising myself in so saying because it's nothing unusual among the Anglicans, Lutherans, Presbyterians, or such here on CF.
What I would recommend is that someone holding negative opinions about the Church and not desiring to publically air that would not attempt to insert themselves between a poster holding very dim views of the Church and a Catholic defending against such views.

Especially not attempting to do so by making the following comment when the discussion was not about the First Council Jerusalem where the local Bishop would be host but actually the very first acts as Apostles and actually their acknowledged, even by you leader recorded in Acts 1. Not just embarrassing but grossly an off swing of any sword. Where did the Church first go wrong?
chevyontheriver said:
That's your novel interpretation. You may find your novel interpretation compelling, but I see it as without any warrant. Peter called for a successor to Judas and his place was filled. They waited in Jerusalem and while waiting brought the number of apostles back up to twelve.
albion said:
"...and all this happened in a council chaired by James, not Peter, and in Jerusalem (as you noted) where James was the host and bishop ordinary, not Peter."

To which that reply was my first exchange with you in this thread. So whose sword swinging wildly to enter a frey are we talking about?

Getting away from lot casting (which has a Scriptural basis) you are still saying that Peter and the Apostles--not just Peter, mind you all jumped up right after Jesus ascended to heaven, and began to change things to the way they wanted it.

Ok guys and gals, happy Friday to all. I've jumped here from page 10 so don't know if someone has already brought this up.

Which name will be written on one of the twelve foundations of Holy Jerusalem as per Revelations 21:14? Matthias or Paul or?

A lot of tennis has been played on this thread. Some times there's an ace or two and a few skillful passing shots but too much of it is so predictable and nobody's keeping score so ....
But I am interested on people's take on which name it will be.
For what it's worth, the thing that helps me to handle the mess and confusion of 'Christianity' on earth is remembering that 'The Church' is in essence, invisible.
Churches come and go, 'The Church' is being built to perfection just as Our Lord promised He would.
Halleluia!

Well I know Jesus' name will be on the Cornerstone and Peters on the stone next to that. :)

Only by the priest in the temple. Jesus came to fulfil the physical temples requirements. We are now the temple and instead of drawing lots we have the Holy Spirit to guide us. Something you should consider taking up because it will help lead you into all truth. Which you obviously need very much.
So if the priest were right to cast lots in the temple presumably because of God's presence there, why would the Apostles who spent more time with Him and have surely had faith in His Guidance than those priests be wrong? Even the Psalmist declares the Spirit would make happen what was done, Judas memory erased and his seat filled.
Why do you use so many words? And it was not God who made the mistake it was PETER!!! PETER!!! PETER!!! BLOODY PETER!!!!
Who picked Peter?

Who picked Peter, the man some apparently claims to be morally superior too along with all the other Apostles?
I can't keep going over this just for you.

Move along, nothing to see here.

Oh yeah, I'm getting as bad as you. Least you had a short post this time:)
Actually the thread started off poorly and I objected only when the tone evident in the beginning of this thread got more offensive. And my first reply to the true nature of the jab in the OP being revealed actually made some light of it. That someone gets chuckles from throwing rocks at a Church they obviously do not understand and arm themselves to do so by discrediting all the Apostles and by inference God's choice in them is not funny at all.
