  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Where can one seek immediate baptism?

One doesn't want to be held up by classes when the Lord returns, when one knows that they believe that Jesus is Lord.

Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 3:21

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
Mark 16:16

Please and thank you.

but still:

one should seek baptism, if it is in one's power to do so, for Jesus said and commanded:

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
Mark 16:16

and

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19

dewba,
any Christian can baptize you in a creek, river, lake, pond, swimming pool or bathtub. You are saved by grace through faith in Jesus. Baptism is necessary to continue to live a victorious life in Christ, to be sure, but baptism is not salvation.

Baptism is merely a decision to follow Christ's command to be baptized as an outward expression of an inward change in your life by acceptance and belief in Jesus as personal Savior and Lord of your life.

Be blessed,
Lee52

Baptism is more than just a little ceremony. Read up on what it does FOR YOU! God works through the water and Word, he literally has attached promises to baptism FOR YOU and they are all in relation to Christ and what He did on the cross for the forgiveness of your sins.

It's wonderful to seek out baptism. Have you been to a church and met with a pastor yet? Tell one of your eagerness and there should be no reason to deny you baptism.

"[P]erhaps someone will ask, ‘What does it conduce unto piety to be baptized?’ In the first place, that you may do what has seemed good to God; in the next place, being born again by water unto God so that you change your first birth, which was from concupiscence, and are able to attain salvation, which would otherwise be impossible. For thus the [prophet] has sworn to us: ‘Amen, I say to you, unless you are born again with living water, into the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.’ Therefore, fly to the water, for this alone can extinguish the fire. He who will not come to the water still carries around with him the spirit of insanity for the sake of which he will not come to the living water for his own salvation" --St. Hippolytus, Homilies 11:26

There are many false prophets, that is true. If you're worried about going to a pastor and doubting his salvation, then don't worry. God is the one at work in baptism. He uses a pastor and He uses the water, but in the end, it's His promises attached to baptism that really count.

Jesus once said to Peter, in Mark 8:33, "Get behind me, Satan! You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."

Someone who does not believe does not have the power to baptize, for if one does not have God in their mind, they are referred to as "Satan" by Jesus.

Baptism is a sign of initiation into a particular church order or fellowship of believers. It was used by the descendants of Noah who was saved and delivered by the same waters which destroyed the unsaved in the flood, and has since been symbolically connected. Now sprinkling is not biblical and is said to give you eyes that don't see and ears that don't hear. Same with infant baptism. What a waste, the child has no understanding of the experience, the significance of serving Christ, or any understanding of the old nature vs the new. Now I was told by several pastors it's against the rules to rebaptize someone, so I guess I'm stuck with my infantile presbyterian sprinkling. Oh well, I don't believe it has any real power anyway; the salvation is in Christ and the baptism that matters is that of the Holy Spirit.

Without baptism, one can't live a victorious life?
Certainly one can live a victorious life without baptism.

Baptism is essentially the "adoption ceremony" of God's adoption of you.
Is it possible to be baptized by someone who claims to be a Christian but isn't?
Sure. The Adopter is really God, not the person pouring water.

Think of it like a contract-signing. You've read the contract, it's all in good order. You put your sign on the contract.

It's just in this case, the contract is actually a covenant of relationship, like a marriage; and your sign is submitting to a rite with water, not pulling out a pen and writing your name at one spot.

Say your lawyer is later convicted of malpractice. Is your contract void? Well no.

Water baptism is something you don't have to worry about. It is really not important for Christians to follow old Jewish ceremonies. Afterall, Jesus never told anyone to do it. In the Great Commission, Jesus is talking about the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. Jesus never baptized anyone in water. (John 4:2) The Baptism of Christ is the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 3: 11) There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism. (Ephesians 4: 5) Water baptism was not to be continued. (John 3:30) John’s baptism in water was replaced by the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 1:5) The nature of the new covenant is spiritual, not ceremonial. (Colossians 2:16) Jesus was vicariously baptized in water for us. (Matthew 3: 13-17) Paul was not sent to baptize and thanks God he stopped doing it. (1 Corinthians 1: 14-17)
