  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Innumerable scholars, both Jewish and Christian, have attempted to calculate the date of Creation. Even if they used the same basis (Tanakh, the Hebrew Bible) for their systems of accounting, there is a broad range among their estimates. The historian des Vignoles stated in the introduction to his treatise on chronology that he had found well over 200 different calculations of the time from the birth of the world to the fall of the Second Temple, and that they varied by as much as 3,500 years. Well into the rule of Queen Victoria of England the most commonly given date for Creation was the year 4004 B.C.E., calculated by Bishop Usher, who published this date in 1654.

I'd challenge the factual accuracy of the bolded section.

Using Usher's date for "Creation" may have been common in popular writing, but not in scientific writing. By the early 1830s, following the publication of Lyell's 'Principles of Geology' the general opinion from the evidence of geology and chemistry was that the earth was, at the very least, 10s of millions of years old.

Settling actual age of the earth to a reasonable degree of accuracy took another 120 years of work, but by the time of the reign of Queen Victoria, few actual geologists accepted an age of the earth measuring mere thousands of years. Even the catastrophist and 'scriptural geologists' accepted the evidence only allowed for an age of the earth in millions of years, rather than thousands.

Bible says the earth is about 6000 years old.
Evolution religion says earth is billions of years old and man came about 5 million years ago.

We know in the last 300 years, human population has grown exponential. If man came about millions of years ago, the population count would be an astronomical figure.

If archeologi$t$ keep finding dino$aur bones, how come there don't find billions and billions and billions of human bones?

This is a very very far stretch, but something I thought I would humorously throw out there: Maybe back in ancient times they also figured out how to make jello using bones?

I think we do find many more human bones than dino bones. (only nobody care to count them or collect them, or hunt for them)

If you found a dino bone, would you publicize it? Would you do that if you found a human bone?

Of course I would. And archaeologists do as well. They just publish them in their specific literature, aka science journals.

I've heard that about the six thousand years. Where does it say that? What chapter?

It doesn't say that at all.
The six thousand years is the time from the creation of man up to the present.

According to the Bible, the earth was created days before the sun.

In fact, it is the first object with mass that came into existence.

Over a period of six days, the amount of mass/energy in the universe was raised from zero to its current level.
The original Hebrew word can be understood as made to appear instead of create.
Made to appear in the firmament from the viewpoint of someone on Earth's surface that is.

This video explains it:

The original Hebrew word ...
The original Greek & Hebrew can be (and is) used to make the Bible say anything:

Moses crossed the Sea of Reeds, the Tabernacle was made of the skin of sea cows, Jesus and Satan are one and the same, etc.

That isn't unique to the Bible. Any literary work can be garbled via mistranslation. But such garbling is easily recognized and is readily exposed for what it is-malicious or incompetent garbling.

Such translations are considered inferior because they don't take linguistic and cultural/historical context into account.

Furthermore, religious texts, such as the Koran and the Bible are continually being scrutinized by religious scholars who will immediately hone in on any kind of gross mistranslation you describe and expose the translators as mischievous charlatans.

Also, anything doesn't go as you claim..
Certain renderings are impossible because they wreak havoc by generating obvious inconsistencies and absurd meanings.

Same applies to all translated literary works.

BTW
A genuine seeker of truth in relation to the Bible will scrutinize such translations. One who is merely eager to find fault will merely declare them ALL equally valid and smugly walk away.

You can definitely find dinosaur bones next to human bones. Just look at me and the wife sitting on the sofa and there is your proof! lol
