  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Food sanitation company accused of employing at least 31 children on graveyard shifts in slaughterhouses

My favorite parts...

Initial evidence indicates the company may also employ more kids under similar conditions at 400 other sites across the country, in addition to the 31 minors employed at three sites that investigators already confirmed, according to the complaint.

Good job. Anyone who thought voting Democrat on this issue can go back and look at the border crisis issue in 2020 and see multiple articles about unaccompanied children in many cases literally thrown over the fence.

You believed they were going to stay with a "sponsor"...but sponsor's just the fancy new term for child trafficker. How many of these horrific stories do we need to hear before people stop supporting this? It only stops when you enforce immigration laws and close asylum loopholes. Biden’s literally shipping these kids around the nation.

I mean we got 12yo Guatemalan girls being raped by their mother's boyfriend and then used for political purposes as she's rushed across state lines for an abortion. Now we know why it was so urgent. She probably had to work a 8-10 shift power washing bone saws and trying to avoid chemical burns. She only gets 1 day off a week....get her across state lines!

For all the nonsense that was thrown at the previous administration for trying to prevent this garbage there's basically no outrage at the closest thing to actual slavery we've had in this country since....I dunno....slavery. The gall of some people who wagged their fingers because children and parents were separated.....and then sent home to their country.....and the doctors who claimed that those couple of days would amount to a lifetime of trauma.

How traumatic do you think it is if your parents catapult you over a fence so you can work a dangerous job under literally oppressive conditions 7 days a week?

I mean, we hear a lot about oppression from the very same people who voted for this. Read the article. You can learn about the vast gulf between real oppression and every other instance they used that word in. Can you imagine telling one of these kids that you're oppressed because you had to fill out a couple more job applications before you got a callback than a white guy? They'll fall asleep because they're 13 and and work all night and your story of oppression is boring them.

I'm not telling anyone to vote for a party or candidate they don't like....but if your favorite candidate supports making it easier to enter the US and opposes enforcement? Please just don't vote for them. This is disgusting. They'll never really go after the big companies. Those companies that own those plants are funding the campaigns of the same politicians who sent those children to them.

. Those companies that own those plants are funding the campaigns of the same politicians who sent those children to them.

The company, which has been owned by a series of private equity funds since 2007, says it employs 17,000 employees at more than 700 locations nationwide, according to its website.

Which funds would those be? Can we find out? Our 401k's might be supporting a company that employed child labor.

And who has benefitted from Packers Sanitation Services, Inc political contributions?

Parents were often sent back to their country of origin without the children. No tracking or system for reunification was put in place originally.

Where does the article indicate that any of the children were illegal immigrants? Or immigrants at all? The kids spoke Spanish, okay, but does that make them undocumented?

Bingo.
The same Republicans who gut the IRS and now there is over 2.4 billion owed to IRS without the manpower to collect. The Dems passed legislation to hire 87,000 more IRS employees over 10 years mainly replacing the 52,000 due to retire, and guess who wants to sabotage that? If the GOP doesn't like an agency, they de-fund the crap out of it, and then point to it and say how ineffective it is.

I spent a few months as a law clerk doing labor law work. These kinds of situations are pretty common, and part of why they companies get away with it is because they simply either threaten to or actually call immigration if anybody complains. If we truly had open borders, which to the best of my knowledge nobody is actually calling for, this kind of stuff would happen less frequently.

You support child labor.

How on earth is that anywhere near a logical statement? It's like saying some Spanish speaking kids were sexually assaulted therefore...what? We support paedophilia?

What the company was doing was illegal. Period. Anything else is incidental. Especially the fact that the kids spoke Spanish. Ten percent of Nebraska's population is Latino. Minnesota's Latino population is the third highest in the States. So...big deal.

I'll say it again, if they were illegal it has no bearing on the company's possible criminal actions. There was nothing in the story to suggest it. And you are making quite an assumption that they were. I hope you have good reason to claim that they are. Else, it seems that you think that anyone with an accent from south of the border is deemed to be illegal.

Just so i can understan, what is the problem? That you have children doing slave labour or that there are children here from other countries?

Because you seem to be kvetching about a nonexistent open boarders policy when a greedy capitalist American company just exploited children.

What's the "we" stuff? I'd swear we just had a conversation where you mentioned being from New Zealand or something. I don't know why you're so bent out of shape. Are you actually from the US? Did you vote for this administration?

If you did, you're at least partially to blame. This party laid out an immigration policy. They fully understand the problem with our asylum process and why children are being exploited. They've done absolutely nothing to stop it. In fact, they either ignore the problem or openly lie about it.

The closest thing to honesty was when Pelosi claimed that we needed them to pick crops. Well picking crops is the sexy way to describe a system of mass exploitation and modern day slavery. This is a rare example of the many other horrific human abuses you supported with your vote. Biden doesn't really want ICE doing this stuff....so I doubt you'll see it again or even anything come of it. These kids will go home to the human smuggler they live with and he'll get them a new job....let's hope it at least pays better.

What the company was doing was illegal. Period. Anything else is incidental. Especially the fact that the kids spoke Spanish. Ten percent of Nebraska's population is Latino. Minnesota's Latino population is the third highest in the States. So...big deal.
You're only kidding yourself here....100% of these kids are Spanish first speakers. If they aren't illegal, their parents will be going to jail for this abuse. The company will deny they knew the kids were underage....something that can hopefully be proven a lie. Ultimately, a patsy will be blamed for it...he'll suffer any punishment...and they'll hire a new group.

Every one of those children are illegal. If they weren't facing the threat of deportation, it's unimaginable why they wouldn't say anything to anyone.

I'll say it again, if they were illegal
There's no if...the only other possibility is their parents are illegal and exploiting their own children for money....

Makes child separation sound downright reasonable. I prefer to imagine the parents are off in Guatemala somewhere and have no idea it's this bad....they just chucked the kid over the fence, told him to send money back, and hoped for the best.

it has no bearing on the company's possible criminal actions.
Possible?

This isn't some guy with an alibi....it's a company with children using industrial cleaners under illegal conditions. This is quite possibly happening in hundreds of locations for just this company. Why do you think they work the night shift?

Did you even read the article? What kind of fantasy scenario are you imagining as a legal reason for this many children being at a job site, that hour of night, all here illegally and speaking Spanish lol?

The company isn't denying it happened...they're claiming they didn't notice when all the new employees had two last names and none broke 5'5" tall.

I don't know who or how many are exactly guilty....but I'm certain someone is.

There was nothing in the story to suggest it. And you are making quite an assumption that they were. I hope you have good reason to claim that they are. Else, it seems that you think that anyone with an accent from south of the border is deemed to be illegal.

Well I have a brain in my head....and there's certainly no legal explanation of this that you'll be able to think of. I have access to the same set of facts you do....and the fact this administration has been hiding this problem and shipping these people across the country coupled with the record numbers of unaccompanied children crossing the last two years really should be enough.

But, I also have access to former coworkers and associates in DHS, CBP, BP, FBI, ATF, NTC (you wouldn't believe this guy's stories) NSA as well as other sources....no need to go into details. I honestly forget some of these subgroups that do investigative work. HSI? I think that's one a guy works for. I couldn't tell you if it's Homeland Security Intiative or Intelligence or Investigations or what.

But yeah, I'm certain. Please stop supporting this.

Food sanitation company accused of employing at least 31 children on graveyard shifts in slaughterhouses

Blackstone's political contribution's according to Open Secrets:

[The 7 figure beneficiaries are Super PAC's, supporting GOP candidates ]

Senate Leadership Fund $20,000,000
Congressional Leadership Fund $10,000,178
American Leadership Action $1,000,000

Honor Pennsylvania $600,000
Schumer, Charles E $274,200
Democratic Congressional Campaign Cmte $264,875
Florida First Project $220,000
National Republican Senatorial Cmte $216,480
Shield PAC $200,000

These companies always buy both sides....

That's why saying that we should go after the companies isn't a real solution. That legislation won't pass. Unless you catch a large mass on the jobsite....they just deny knowing the employee or claim an honest error in citizenship verification. Slap on the wrist.

It's as pointless as suggesting we fix these foreign nations. We can't. We've been donating to that goal decades with zero progress.

Few real solutions available.

Good grief, the very first line of your op is 'you support child labour'. And the twisted logic behind that is that if you aren't actually for better controls on immigration then therefore 'you' support children working in abbatoirs. It makes zero sense in the first instance. And the cherry on the cake is that you have assumed that because the kids spoke Spanish then they are illegal. I guess you think that if you're a legal immigrant then English becomes your first language. Now where have I seen that before?
