  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi everyone,

Here's a simple question:

When were Catholic doctrines developed?

Is there some website that has some sort of chart that explains the development of doctrines like the trinity, original sin, etc?

thanks and God bless!

-Jason

P.S.  Original sin was developed before Mary's immaculate conception, correct?  (I thought I read that somewhere but I don't fully remember).  It would seem logical to make that statement since immaculate conception involves original sin =P

I'll let you in on a big secret: It's not as long ago as the Catholics always say.

In fact, I have it on the highest authority that every Catholic doctrine was invented *last Tuesday*, in an attempt to suppress good Bible-believing Christians. :p

Anyone know when the trinity was declared doctrine?

And what about original sin?

The Trinity as dogma was defined at the Councils of Nicea (325 A.D.-- which dealt with Jesus' divinity and consubstantiality with the Father) and Constantinople (381 A.D.) which dealt with unity and procession of the Holy Spirit.

I believe Original Sin was defined formally at the Second Council of Orange (529 A.D.), otherwise a 'local' council given dogmatic effect by having been ratified by Pope Boniface II.
