Father, it has been too long since my last confession.

I'm glad you brought this up, because Christians don't talk much about sin and repentance anymore.

The last significant things I noticed -- talking about people in ways that might harm them. Holding onto resentment and fear without moving on.

Next.

Dear guitarintro. Many Christians try not to sin, but then before we realise, our thoughts let us down again. Sinning in deeds is getting better all the time, sinning by letting our tongues run away with us, is easy enough, when we don`t go out a lot. But oh dear, our thoughts can be quite hurtful, even if we think they are true. Like St.Paul said, we try, but fail all the time. The Lord`s Prayer is our greatest weapon, and Jesus`s Love, Joy and Peace our constant help and guide. We know that we are sinning often, guitarintro, but we may be sure that we are judged by our serious attempts to sin less and less. And as we get older, sinning becomes easier to subdue. I say this humbly and gratefully. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

From my perspective it dosen't matter when the literal last time was because soon as you think you got victory over the flesh, BAM! back to square one no matter how long you've been walking with the Lord. We are cursed with a sin nature that rages and cools, it taunts and tricks, hides and hurts. If you really want to understand this subject of sin and our role in dealing with it you should read; "Overcoming Sin & Temptation" Three Classic works by JOHN OWEN written by Kapic & Taylor. You'll be blown away literally. This is the most direct book you'll ever find concerning the subject. While most books skate around for hours with little pretty stories this book is like an instruction booklet. #1. It helps understanding sin and #2. it tells you how to kill it. One of my favorite quotes by John Owen is "Be killing sin, or it will be killing you!"

We sin every day, weather we realize it or not.

We are cursed with a sin nature that rages and cools, it taunts and tricks, hides and hurts.

Romans 6:14 says that sin has no dominion over us. We are saved from the power of sin on a daily basis. We can say NO!

When we accepted Jesus as our Saviour, we were saved from the penalty of our sins; past, present, future!

We are saved daily from the power of sin.

We will be saved from the presence of sin when Jesus calls us home.

Yes my sins every day are wretched and too many to count. But God is maturing me, and helping me to gain victory just as He is with every Christian. Not to a level of perfection in this age, but improvement through God's grace through Christ. Yet, through the flesh we are tempted, and we sin many times every day (at least I do).

"Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. "Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
"I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances." (Ezekiel 36:25-27)

"and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth." (Ephesians 4:24)

The last time I sinned was about 4 1/2 hours ago, and guess what you don't let the sun set on anger, and you don't allow the root of bitterness to spring up.

Then you confess, repent, and ask our Lord Jesus Christ for forgiveness and you forgive those who offend and hurt you and you ask those to forgive you when you offend and hurt others.

Now, I am sinless, until the next time.

What about you mate?:)

I think it's hard to define sometimes. I used to think everything was a sin -- any slight indulgence or desire to do something fun. Thoughts of pride, wanting to get ahead. Wishing I ranked higher than someone else, wishing for fame or success. Irritation with someone.

The Bible says, "Don't let the sun set on your anger." It doesn't say we shouldn't get angry over an injustice or change of plans. Jesus himself knocked over a few tables. There are times to be angry, to prevent oppressors from trampling everyone.

There are verses about God wanting to bless His people, and make their efforts succeed. So wanting the same thing for yourself should not be evil. We just need to catch ourselves when we get greedy.

Repentance is important, but self-degradation has proven to be a problem throughout history. Humility mixed with love should not result in self-hate. Involvement in the church should not put people in charge of being each other's sin police.

That is admirable that at 18 you have a conscience about this.

I just came from a marriage seminar and learned lots of stuff about men's and women's needs and I probably have been guilty in this area. I thank God for leading me and my husband to this church.

Thanks for the replies. I guess at my age, I am dealing more with lust. Lustful thoughts pop in quite frequently. Any isn't dwelling on a sexual thought sinful?

It's definitely tough and I need Jesus' help to overcome sin. I experience spiritual highs and spiritual lows, but sometimes when I come home from church sermon I sin.

I realize when I am angry or frustrated, sin is easier to occur and temptation is a lot tough. Not sure if anyone else feels this way?

^_^ I know someone who found that their roughest time of the week -- the ride home.

What you said about dwelling on thoughts is really the core of it. We all have fleeting thoughts, and have no control over them popping into mind, unless we feed our brains with that input. But it's what we do with these thoughts that matters.

Ephesians 4:26,
27
"In your anger do not sin" : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.

Notice that the sin is not placed on the anger, but on holding on to resentment.

This whole chapter is a good guideline for living sensibly.

Similar advice is given about drinking -- wine is fine, but drunkenness is counter-productive and leads to embarrassment, poor decisions, poverty.

Lending money has a balance, and I think the reason it was in the NT was to balance what people had made out of the OT advice:

Proverbs 11:15
He who puts up security for another will surely suffer, but whoever refuses to strike hands in pledge is safe.

(Not about sin but practicality)

Proverbs 17:18

A man lacking in judgment strikes hands in pledge and puts up security for his neighbor.
Proverbs 17:5

He who mocks the poor shows contempt for their Maker; whoever gloats over disaster will not go unpunished.

Proverbs 6:6-11
10 A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest-

11 and poverty will come on you like a bandit
and scarcity like an armed man.

Proverbs 10:26

As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is a sluggard to those who send him.

Proverbs 18:9

One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys.

Nehemiah 5:10
I and my brothers and my men are also lending the people money and grain. But let the exacting of usury stop!

Leviticus 25:36-38
'If one of your countrymen becomes poor and is unable to support himself among you, help him as you would an alien or a temporary resident, so he can continue to live among you.

You must not lend him money at interest or sell him food at a profit. Do not take interest of any kind from him, but fear your God, so that your countryman may continue to live among you. You must not lend him money at interest or sell him food at a profit.

Proverbs 10:4

Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.

Proverbs 10:5

He who gathers crops in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.

Matthew 7:6
"Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces. (Not originally about lending.)

Psalm 15:5
who lends his money without usury and does not accept a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.

Psalm 112:5
Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice.

Proverbs 19:17
He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done.

Loaning is not really about sin -- it's about generosity and human decency and long-term insight. If you don't take care of people who are desperate, then they will need to resort to other methods of getting what they need. This will impact the whole community.

But if a friend who is dying of starvation gets turned down, then you have to shake yourself and think of what your life is about.

I can def. relate...it seems like those days when I forget to read my bible or pray in the morning i have a much harder time to live like Jesus has called us to. Being in constant prayer really helps!
