Just posting the fourth and sixth verses, in case some have never seen them...

4)His dying crimson, like a robe,
Spreads o’er His body on the tree;
Then I am dead to all the globe,
And all the globe is dead to me.

6)To Christ, Who won for sinners grace
By bitter grief and anguish sore,
Be praise from all the ransomed race
Forever and forevermore.

this hymn is up there with amazing grace..and i am SOO glad that it has recently been acknowledged- it incorporates Jesus' life and death, while also making it clear how we as christians live, in the LIGHT of the cross.
think of the POWER in this song and it makes me soooo LOOK FORWARD to heaven. thank God for the old hymn writers who knew what it meant to be truly saved.
i LOVE those extra verses..!

I never really understood Amazing Grace. I haven't actually sat down and read throught the lyrics and studied them though. I think i should.
"Faith's Review and Expectation"- a classic...

Although I disagree with about 98% of this website... this is one good article- a brief introduction to who John Newton was...

Do people prefer the original of this or the soul survivor version? I prefer soul survivor.
If you know of any other versions, please post who by. Thanks
Actually, there are several melodies to which the beautiful words of this hymn have been set. "The Wondrous Cross" uses the most common one as written by Lowell Mason in 1824. But the other melodies are just as pretty.

Rich :clap:
