  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When do you know if God is on your side?

Dear CuriousAtheist. I agree wholeheartedly with elman. God is Love, and God cannot ever be others. God`s eternal Law of Justice metes out Blessings for deserving men and women, and fitting consequences for all deeds unloving and uncaring. I say this with love. Greetings from Emmy, sister in Christ.

If that were God's justice then it would look an awful lot like human justice.

However we read that there is a Justice from God apart from the Law, revealed in the Gospel (Romans 1:17 and 3:21)

It's the Justice of God that makes us just, the sets things right by the Crucified and Risen Jesus; it is the grace of God that sets us free and reconciles us to each other and to Himself.

Dear CuriousAtheist. Jesus gave us two Commandments, they contain all what God wants from us: " Love for God, He made us in His image, and Love for our neighbour: ( all others, friends and not friends)" To love friends is easy enough, and when we are told to love others, even the unfriendly and uncaring strangers, what does it entail? When we remember that God made us all, and God loves us all, it is not too hard to treat everybody as we like to be treated. God can see our hearts and God will know. Jesus will give us His Love and Joy, and the Holy Spirit will give us His Love, also. ( Jesus told us: to ask and we will receive, and then we thank God, and share our love PLUS the Gifts of Love, with all around us.) God will see our sincere efforts and God will KNOW that we love Him and our neighbour: God with all our beings, and our neighbour as ourselves. Jesus did tell us in Matthew, " On these two Commandments hang ALL THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS." Love is of great importance to God, God is Love, and God wants loving children/sons and daughters. We have years to become better and better, and Love changes people as well as everything, and we find that we are becoming more and more, as God wants us to be. We will stumble and even fail often, but we ask God for forgiveness, and God will forgive us as we will forgive others. Then we carry on and let Love change us. God told us: " Whosoever will may come." I say this with love, CuriousAtheist. Greetings from Emmy, sister in Christ.
