  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

what archealogical evidence do you have to disprove the Bible?
To disprove the Bible? None.

To disprove a literal translation of the creation stories? Christian ministers that were amature geologists did that hundreds of years ago.

what do ya mean by that
The Church and science have long walked hand in hand, even today many of the top universities are part of or were set up by Churches. The study of the universe has and still does help us understand our place in it and our relationship with God since He is the one that created the universe.

Look up the founders of Geology, Biology and many other sciences and you will fing that they were also ordained ministers.

Now geology was one of the first things that started to show that we were reading the Bible in the wrong way, too literaly.

Now we know that erosion changes the shape of the land, and even wears down mountians. In England, one of these minister/geologists noticed that a wall built by the romans over a thousand years before his day still looked new, this caused him to start wondering "If a thousand year old fence looks new then how long must it have taken to wear down the landscape around me?". Before this time, most people assumed that the Earth was only a few thousand years old, but for the things that we see around us it would have taken much longer for them to form.

Now many geologists at that time used Noahs flood to explain this, but this didn't set well with many the more they looked at the Earth, it just did not look like what one would expect a flood ravaged world would. Since they were familiar with lesser floods and what they could do, and all you have to do is simply scale a flood up to the size needed to see what it shoud do they started experimenting. Almost every thing they found from the smallest hills to the largest mountians could not be explained by the flood.

Now they were Christians and thus believed two things, God created the universe and God does not lie. Now they faced a problem...

If the literal interpretation of the flood was correct, then God was lying because of the things left in His creation if the evidence that God left in the world was correct and the flood story was still ment to be read literaly then God was lying through the Bible.

Now they could of done a few things...

1. Gave up belief in God.
2. Say that God is a liar.
3. Look at the Bible again and see if the flood story can be read non-literaly and still mean something.

They choose #3, and find that there is no problem reading the flood story like a parable that Jesus might tell, and infact it seems to make more sense that way.

They decide that an old earth is no problem for the Christian balief system.

Fifty years later, there are a few people working on why animals and people are the way they are, Darwin and Wallace being the two most prominant, and both are Christians. Now like with geology fifty years earlier there seems to be a problem with Gods creation and the Bible matching up. After working on the problem for years both seperatly come up with basicaly the same answer, evolution.

Darwin and Wallace then faced the same three choices that the geologists faced earlier and made the same choice #3. That we had interpreted Gods word wrongly.

Now there is much made about Darwin, much later in life, becoming agnostic, but that had nothing to do with science, but more to do with the death of his daughter and mistakes his pastor made in dealing with a greiving father.

hey, by the way, the asteroid is kinda on the outs, since the major creatures that survived were all exothermix (cold blooded). The smaller endothermic dinosaurs (and which ones weren't warmblooded I'd have to check) should have survived, and not just as birds or bird similar. Again, some hold that the birds and dinos came from a similar ancestor, not directly birds from dinos as one might think..

First off, exothermic means 'gives off heat' and so is probably actually the word for 'warm-blooded'

And also the major survivors of the asteroid impact were the small, warm-blooded mammals last I heard.

It's backwards for dinos, or is according to my last readings. I had to deal with that when I got into biology classes. The heat came from an outside source for "cold blooded", hence exothermic. Endothermic had an inside heat. it's actually ectothermic instead of exothermic. but don't trust me. go find out for yourself.

the coldblooded crocidilians and reptiles didn't survive? i'll go tell them to die:)

Gennisis 1:2 in the originall translation says that the earth BECAME void and without shape so the cause of it is probbably the 'asteriod', or what i think was satan being cast into earth
I fully acknowledge my total lack of knowledge regarding Bible teachings...but I was under the impression that Satan is still in Heaven with Jesus and that he has not been cast down to earth quite yet.

Well, we can't really be sure what the physiology of all dinosaurs was. Some (Bakker for instance) claim that endothermy was shared by all dinosaurs whereas others (Jones for instance) claim that no dinosaurs were endothermic. I'd say the evidence is overwhelming for endothermic theropods... I'm undecided about the other clades.

yeah, I also like horners work (but who doesn't, besides jones)). comparing the innner bone structureof birds and dinos..plus, there a whole bunch of stuff about size and heat. It says something to the effect that the sheer size of the sauropods prevents them from being exothermic.. I cant remember where it was from...It's been a while since i have gone over my paleo stuff...

But what is your opinion on the asteroid theory then? smashing good theory?

In the same general time frame, (65mya) major lava flows were happening in northern siberia and 3 asteroids smashed into the earth. I personally suspect that all of these events played a part.
