What's your opinion about Paul Washer?

What do you think about Paul Washer?

  • I think he's totally awesome.

  • I love his shocking sermons they scare me and make me try harder.

  • I think he's dangerous and preaches a false message.

  • Listening to his sermons made me sick.

  • We need more Paul Washer styled preachers. You have to scare christians to help them.

  • People need to become totally terrorized by the fear of God this will make them stop sinning.

  • Washer preaches a sound message. If you want to get saved you have to stop sinning.

  • I want to become a shock-preacher like Washer one day.

  • There's nothing better than shocking a church full of young people.

  • Making young christians doubt their salvation is always good it makes them try harder.

He seems to be really "in" nowadays and all over youtube there are many Washer fans who post his sermons. I really wonder why it's so cool these days to be a Washer fan. Maybe it's because of his hard and "shocking" preaching which he seems to be proud of otherwise he would not brag about being invited to churches only one time and then never being invited back because his sermons are so shocking.

I've heard him talk about not being invited back to churches, but I don't think I've ever heard him brag about it. In fact, he sounds kind of sad about it.

listened to some of his sermons and found them all totally disturbing and destructive.

Really? How so?

He also seems to be a calvinist so according to him you can never really be sure you're saved even if you think you're saved you can only be sure that you're saved when you live a good life.

I've got about two dozen Paul Washer sermons on my ipod and I listen to them often. I don't think I've ever heard him say anything like this. From having listened to him and having talked to him, I believe he knows what Calvinism teaches far too well to say these things.

And he also hates the sinner's prayer.

Yep. Me too.

One time he told a story how he witnessed to a man in church for hours and then he said he (Washer) could not let him get saved because this man was not willing to give up all sins.
Can you believe that? Washer could not let a man get saved!
I did not know that Washer is God now, did you?

I've heard him tell the same story many times.

First of all, it was a young girl, not a man.

Second, he never told her he "could not let her get saved" (as if that was up to him in the first place). What he said was that she did not have a sufficient understanding of her sinfulness and her enmity with God to be saved. He told her to go home and pray about it. She eventually did get saved and Washer and the church rejoiced with her and for her.

I think that Washer is a dangerous and destructive preacher. Just go to youtube and search for Paul Washer. All the stuff he preaches about is always about wrong conversion vs. real conversion, living "holy", fearing God, the hatred of God. It's simply all stuff which scares people and which makes you insecure and makes you doubt wether you're really saved and really "holy" enough.

Are those bad things?

It puts all the focus on the believer and how well he's doing as a christian and if you do well then you can feel saved and if you don't do well according to Paul Washer's standards then you're probably not saved or you need to try harder.

Actually, Washer doesn't preach that at all. He preaches that there is nothing we can do earn or secure our own salvation, but that we are spiritually dead, hopeless, and completely reliant upon the mercy of God.

Please clearly define "turn from evil to Christ". This is wishy-washy vague religious talk.

Turn from the world, turn from sin, turn from darkness to light, turn from an evil heart, turn from the love of sin, turn from hatred of God, turn from bondage, turn from serving satan, turn from false doctrine. It is not something we can do on our own. God must produce repentance in us, it is a change of heart, it is God removing the heart of stone and giving us a heart of flesh, it is to be born again.

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." (1 Peter 2:9)

Have you noticed you are ignoring all the verses on repentance that I post?
