  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's your background?

I see the CIA lists the Czech Republic as 39% Atheist, I can't think of any European country with a higher rate than that. Do have any idea why that is?

Bohemia and Moravia were Orthodox until the Hapsburgs. Then they were forced to convert to Roman Catholicism. Jan Hus wanted the country returned to it's Orthodox roots, mainly because they wanted liturgy in Czech and the removal of Purgatory/Indulgences. Thus you get the Hussite Protestants. Jan Hus wanted to return to Orthodoxy, but alas, they reformed it.

I've got a good portion of Swedish on my mother's side and a good chunk of Scottish on my dad's. The rest is sort of a Heinz variety, though mostly British Isles (I'm sure there has to be a bit of Welsh and Irish blood coursing through my veins)

For the most part I'm Native American--Cherokee. Mix that up with some Scottish and German and Irish...and there you go.

My mother in law was an adopted child but found many of her blood relatives. Many of whom are Cherokee. She has a half sister that was raised on a reservation, still speaks Cherokee and has some position on a tribal counsel.

Me ... I am a Heinz 57 mix but primarily English and French

I am adopted as well, so when I said I am German, English, Irish, Scott that is what my adopted family is. I don't know either of my natural parents, so I really do not know what they are.

Okay! This stuff drives me insane!

Help me out here...

My mother's parents were from Bulgaria. Their last name is Arda.

My father's Father is from Russia, and my father's MOTHER is from Iran. my last name is Ozbek; does that have anything to do with the Uzbeks? Uzbekistan? I don't know!

Maybe because Uzbekistan was a part of Russia some time ago?

someone help me out here!

LOL, that's quite a mix... theres a huge difference between being born somewhere and your ethnic make-up

Are your mother's parents ethnic Bulgars? is your grandfather an ethnic russian? is your grandmother a persian? Turks are a different ethnic group too.

Your last name really looks like Central Asian (Uzbekistan, Tajikistan etc.). Do you know from what part of Russia your grandfather is?

Khan (king) Ozbek ruled Altan Orda empire in 1312-1342 and made Islam the state religion.
