Hope you're warm enough indoors WB! How amazing your wife came from Peterborough. I lived there in the 1980s and was married there. We had a good social life and were involved in many things. I miss it in some ways.

Dave, I'm beginning to feel the colder weather too now. I could do with the fuel allowance (but am too young!) - my fuel bills have shot up this year.

Worddancer, I'm changing my view of the midwest - I had assumed it was clear skies all year round. From what you say it is overcast; presumably that is why it is humid in summer.

Buttercup NYC sounds so exciting!

Brinny, did you get snow?

It's cold and clear here (south Cheshire, UK)

It's cold in wonderful NYC! I really do like the city, but need to dress very warmly because I do a lot of walking -- to the bus and subway -- and just doing errands. It is healthy, but can get very cold. It was cold tonight walking home from the subway after work.

Yes Sue, around 4.30am we too had a light dusting of snow on rooftops
on cars and wheelie bins
but all this had disappeared by the time I got up [tennish :)]
Mary had risen earlier to let the dogs out
and brought me a cup of coffee to the bedside
I got up as soon as I had finished the coffee

It has been a very cloudy day, with rain 'on and off' all day
when it wasn't raining it was, very chilly out there

Now that the snow has gone (for now!) it is much warmer. Infact I even went for a walk into town, returned a book to the library, got a couple of things for my wife and the church and then decided to treat us to the DVD 'Prince Caspian. Got home just in tome to miss the rain showers. Now we have strong winds agin with rain!

We, had a white frost everywhere here this morning
I havent seen the thermometer rise above 4.C all day
and it is very cold outside

I just looked at the skies above us
and they are 'clear'
so it is going to be very cold again tonight

Thankfully, no snow tonight

Did the snow & frost move south from the Orkneys to us in Cheshire? It was very frosty here this morning too, Dave. I've just looked out of the window, and can't see the cars frosted up yet, but it has been cold today! Which is better? Wet and windy or cold and frosty?

Hope you enjoyed your walk Buttercup.

61 sounds very nice walkin2e.

Hiyah Sue

It is presently overcast, 3.C/ 38.F here and feels very cold

some tearaway has torched a car he has dumped
in the next square over from us
Fire Appliances are attending as I type

'wet and windy' or, 'cold and frosty' ?

Now, there is a question

wet gives the plants a drink
and enables water extraction for human use
wind blows the clouds around so everyone gets a share

cold chills the bones but it triggers life to begin below ground
and frosty breaks up the soil so that plants can get through the surface

We musnt forget that these things are seasonal [transient and will pass]
and is all a part of His grand-design

Another cold, but clear day and again, no wind. Another lovely day for walking. Walked around the Grand Central Station area -- my optician is there and my glasses needed fixing -- and the Christmas lights are going up. It looks so festive.

*smiles* my friend in Maine had rain . . storms, actually, last night. It's so wonderful to think of your rain, and holiday lights in urban centers, and terms I've never heard before (tearaways? Fire Appliances? I think I can guess the meaning from context, but love the colorful language)

I woke to a dawn of brilliant sunshine that shimmered off a frosting of glitter on every single possible surface . . metal, vinyl siding, cement, bark, grasses, irrigators, poles and wires, the backs of the cattle . . so pretty . . so cold!

But it's warming up . . the sorry little dollups of lingering snow should be history as the day warms up. Hopefully!
