Home, Western 'Burbs of Chicago: 18F at present, going down to -18F tonight. Snow, 2 to 4 more inches expected here. Northwest Indiana is getting hit with maybe an additional foot of lake-effect snow.

Tomorrow's "high"-- I use the term very loosely-- is supposed to be -12F.

A quick check of the Chicagoland driving forecast: "What, are you kidding me?? Stay home, don't go out unless it's an emergency. Work can wait!"

So-- I'll probably get a job and go out. You know how that goes. Worse, it might be a run to International Falls, where it's -40. F or C, doesn't matter-- at that temp both scales say it's too cold.

Temps slowly rising toward morning with rain into mid day, then a freeze again by evening with bitter cold until Thursday.

We have a wind blowing tonight...not hard, but I can hear it in the trees...it remains sunny, dry...toooooo dry. High to mid 60's for the daytime...mid 40's at night.

I think the cold in the east would about kill me...Just cannot imagine how that might feel.

-11F, still going down to -15F as I write this. Got the van started, but I sure won't complain if I don't get a run today. Tomorrow it warms up-- to 0F.

Edit; add-on: At 7:20 AM Chicago time, I am listening to travel reports and weather reports in this area. Northwest Indiana is largely shut down, don't even think about the Interstates. Chicago area Interstates are slow and icy, once beyond the built-up areas blowing and drifting snow become serious problems. In town, slow and icy conditions. Right now, minus 15 at O'Hare Airport. I read a report that Indianapolis is under red travel alert, it's illegal to drive in and around Indianapolis except for emergency and to get to shelter.

I don't think I'm going anywhere today, it's barely possible to navigate around Chicago and once beyond the Metro Area you're on your own....

It's 3 degrees here now and to -6 tonight, with wind chill -20 to -30; and .8 inches of snow here, to 5 inches in eastern part of state. Wind chill advisory for today and Tues.

Cold and getting colder..our wind chill is expected to hit -9 at times before it begins to warm up again.

Within hours, the temp dropped 20 degrees and it snowed!
Now we have wind chill warnings below zero the next 2 days

It was -11F when I woke this morning, now up to -10 and will get above 0F today, not settling much tonight.

Roads are still risky, blowing snow and black ice rule the roads-- no doubt about it. Anything South of US 30 is a real gamble today, so once again I probably am not going anywhere today. At these temps, road-salt is useless so we await warmer weather so the salt can work.

I just got word that I-65 in Indiana is open again-- it was shut down from Merrillville to Lafayette Indiana-- but state police say travel at your own risk because it's still dangerous.
