I follow you so far, I sin because I'm a sinner, because I don't know anything else but that so far, right? I know that much..but shouldn't we sin less after we come to Jesus?

Good. I'm glad you understand that now you will be able to understand the next part.

Yes we should sin less. You tell me... why we should sin less?

I have one question for all readers of this thread, that in effect ties to the question, What is the true meaning of Christianity. Well the question I have to ask of you all, is what is God's Name.

If you are stumped by this question, simple read my screen name. The name translated to English is Jehovah, but this can be found in KJV bibles everywhere, but for some reason, the NKJV was commisioned to remove the final references to our Fathers true name. How can you begin to understand the true meanings and understand the word of God, if you cannot simplely get past even knowing his name. How are you able to draw close to him, and have a personal relationship like those people in the acient times. If you are to do some research, you could easily find that his name was removed over 6900 times in the hebrew and aramic scriptures.

I honestly dont belive God's proper Hebrew name is the true issue. In truth, I doubt any human has the ability to pronounce His true name. What is the true issue, is Who He Is. Namely, His character and His nature.

All throughout Scripture, He gives various names. Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Shalom, Jehovah Rophe etc. but it was not the verbal representations that matter, but the very nature of God that He was trying to convey in those words.

Our Lord is awesome in power, utterly holy, and indescribably lovely. He is infinitely patient, infinitely loving and infinitely merciful. No human words can even come close to capturing who He is.

So let's not focus so much on how His name is spelled, or pronounced. Let's focus on the awesomeness of Who He Is, and that in all that awesomeness, majesty and splendor, He loves us!

I dont know about you all, but that completly bends my mind!

Yes, that is true, but did you ever wonder why God requires us to deal so strictly with sin?

If you would answer "because He's holy", you'd be right, but that's only part of the picture. The answer might surprise you.

Do you believe that their is a Hell, that it is an actual spiritual place that you will go and be tormented for eturnity? For if you believe in hell, then the actual thought that you stated above would be far from the truth, wouldn't it? How could someone who loves the world so much, that he gave his only begotten son, place you into eternal firey torment. Could knowing place anyone you know in torment? Now just imagine how he would feel, that he created something, just for it to live a short while then be tortured.

He is infinitely patient, infinitely loving and infinitely merciful.

You are indeed precious!

Yes you are correct in what you say. But how can we, who are sinners and unable to do good, love the Lord with all our hearts? Is it not because the one who lives within already does? John 15:5 Jesus tells us "we can do no thing apart from Him." So if we are to love God, upon whom must we rely to do this work?
2Cor 5:17 tells us "if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, the old things have passed away, behold all things become new."
This newness is conditional - "if"
Do you know Little Froggy that you are dead? That is, the sin nature within each of us who believe is dead (the old man Rm 6:6).
(Rom 6:3) The whipping, the beatings, the hammering in of the nails, this was your judgement little one but Jesus took your place in it's execution so that you you may believe and have life.
Now I know you believe and therefore you have life but it is not your life that lives in you, it is Christ's life. Your life is dead and you must reckon it to be so and leave it in the grave. (Rom 6:11)
You cannot make your old self conform to God's Word. It will never happen. Instead you must understand the new life that is in you (ie Holy Spirit) lives the life you cannot. Our part in this is to essentially "let Him have His way with us".
Now what you must do is stop looking into your grave and wishing that person wouldn't say hurtful things and instead look up into the face of the one who's life you have and thank Him for doing and being what you cannot. Every time you find yourself "looking into your grave" (ie thinking about your sin) you must stop it. We are to take our thoughts captive (2Cor 10:5). We have to change the way we think about God, about ourselves (Rom 12:2) and know the Truth.
Psalm 111:19 "I will hide the word of the Lord in my heart that I may not sin against thee." Your thoughts must be replaced by the Word of God. There are to be no "if's, but's or maybe's" about it. You don't let circumstances dictate the truth to you, you don't let others dictate the truth to you, you don't let the way you feel dictate the truth to you, rather you let the Word of God tell you what is true and you hold that and that alone.
At first it is difficult to do because it is a new way of living for us, but I promise, it does get easier. You don't have to go "beating yourself up" either. Jesus has already given you everything necessary for a holy life. Remember His last words on the cross ... "It is finished". When you find yourself struggling to believe it is true, you confess your unbelief, because God will not only forgive you but also cleanse you. (1Jn 1:9) This is important to remember because many people know God forgives them but they fail to recognise He also cleanses them. They walk away thanking God for His forgiveness but then try, in their own strength, to overcome their sin. It cannot be done...remember "you can do nothing"!
Are you beginning to see just how incedibly gracious our God is?
Everything needed for you to live a holy life is given to you from the outset. You cannot get "anymore of God than what you already have", you now must learn to walk in that life instead of your own. This takes time so don't be troubled by your failings. Fill your heart with His Word and guard it against all enemies. (Prov 4:23)
You have begun to "hop" down a very good road. Just take one lilypad at a time. :) Don't be put off by anyone or anything. In all accusations, irrespective of where they come from, smile and refer them to Jesus, for this is where your life is now hid. Tell your accusers He has it covered!
Jesus loves sinners, so much so, He refuses to leave them that way! :D
Be of good cheer little one.

Hi

God does not place anyone in Hell. We place ourselves there through our refusal to repent and believe. The Lord is a respecter of persons and allows us the freedom to choose between believing His Word to be true or not. For those who believe, there is the promise (guaranteed promise I might add) of eternal life but for those who choose not to believe then there is the consequences of eternal separation from God. (the lake of fire, not Hell for even this is thrown into the lake)
"The fool says in his heart, there is no God".
The Word of the Lord is Law. Just as the law of gravity, if broken, will be to the demise of he who breaks it, so too does the breaking of God's law have consequences. No-one is without excuse for the natural creation itself speaks of One who is great and greatly to be praised. That we choose to follow a myriad of paths based on our own understanding rather than the Word of God is evidenced even within the life of the Church.

Psalm 100:5 "For the Lord is good, His mercies everlasting"
Psalm 103:17 "But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear Him......"
Psalm 89:2 "For I have said Mercy shall be built up forever....

Are you suggesting there will be a time when the Lord is not merciful? Do you think the separation of the "wheat and tares", the sheep and goats" is not because of the Lord's mercy?

Psalm 145:9 "The Lord is good to all and His tender mercies are over all His works."

Do you not understand that even in the final judgement (Rev.20:12-15) it will still be the Cross of Jesus Christ as the standard to which the Lord bases His judgement upon? Would you suggest His Cross is not an act of mercy? If all those who stood in this place had no opportunity for salvation why would the Lord bring forth the "Book of life"? It is because He is indeed merciful forever.
It is because of His mercies that sin has been judged according to His Eternal Word. It is because He is unchanging in those mercies that we can be confident in His judgement and turn to Him through this provision. It is because of His mercy that King David, a murderer and adulterer, could cry out and find forgiveness. It is because of His mercy that Isaiah could stand up, having fallen on his face in dismay at the blackness of his own sin. It is because of His mercy that Paul would declare "If God be for us, who can be against us." It is because of His mercy we have hope and the confidence of an unchanging love that will bring all creation to perfection.

Please do not be like the unbelieving who would say "He is not merciful". :(

"His mercies are new every morning and His steadfasst love never ceases." Thanks be to Christ.

God's infinite patience, infinite lovinging kindness and infinite mercy is extended to us as long as we have breath in our bodies to give us every avaiable second to turn to Him. But as Sawdust has so aptly explained (Thanks Sawdust!) if in the face of such patience and God going so far out of His way to reconcile us to Himself that He would send His beloved Son to provide that way in the horrific way He did; if a person still refuses to acknowledge that God is indeed God, accept Jesus as the only means of salvation, surrender himself to the very one who created him, then that person is without excuse--they have made the choice themselves.

I can assure you, it is not the end He would have chose for them. The pain and anguish that our Lord feels at the loss of those who have rejected Him and will not spend eternity with Him is a pain we cant even begin to imagine.

Want to know the primary reason we're commanded not to sin?

The reason He hates sin and commands us to resist and flee from it is because it causes separation between Him and us and He loves us so much, He cant bear that separation.

That is the bottom line! When I got that, resisting sin was not a chore anymore, it was a glorious way to get closer and closer to my Lord!
