Test drove a brand new car the other day. That's a fun thing to do, and it had all the bells and whistles like sat nav, heated leather seats, keyless entry and ignition, bluetooth and wifi.

But, out of my budget for sure. And my car I have now I'm happy with, even if it doesn't have sat nav, it has lots of space.

Also I found a rug, actually two, one for my bedroom and one for the bath.
I think next week may check out the cushions so far only the rabbit fur ones have caught my eye.
I bought sooo many boxes. But now everything is tidy pretty much. It seems like I bought the entire stock they had in the shop.

I'm surprised to see this name. I found his book Three Outsiders, examining the lives and philosophies of Pascal, Kierkegaard, and Weil, at a thrift store awhile back.

Books:
The Art of Biblical Narrative by Robert Alter
The Art of Biblical Poetry by Robert Alter
The InterVarsity Dictionary of the Old Testament: The Prophets

Essential Oils:
Thuja occidentalis
Ravensara
Pinus pinaster
Styrax benzoin
(still unsure of this one)

Oakmoss Absolute
I haven't heard of those essential oils although I don't go with the latin names.
I do have lavender, manuka (tea tree) and jasmine/ylang ylang seems to be the ones I use the most.

yeah tacos.. I just decided that it's easier to put corn chips in a bowl along with the rest of the taco toppings and eat them like that. it was a life changing idea. where there are tacos there are sure to be burritos near by.
I like tacos even if they a bit messy to eat and assemble but corn chips are actually messier to eat as they don't all hold the food inside them like a taco can. I find it funny when fast food places or cafes give you corn chips as nachos and also give you a KNIFE and fork to eat them with. How are you gonna cut up a corn chip??

ah student daze.
People think its manic when you tidy up the house and then buy new things, but its normal. Its called nesting or getting ready for hibernation (ie. winter).

I have new things to look for but need to wait to next week.

taupe bronte boots - very tempted to buy these as be good to have a spare pair for winter. But I would have to order them in as the shop didn't have one in this colour..

sheepskin cushions or cushion covers.

seed raising mix. But think someone is going to give me that.
saw a nice bamboo magazine rack stand that could also hold newspapers and remotes but it was about $60.

I am going to have to sew new curtains as ours are falling apart, it ripped the other day. Our house looks like those haunted halloween houses from the outside, as if someone slashed the curtains - or some cat...

would rather have a 3 year supply of rice and pinto beans. I think it cost like 23$ for 20lb of white rice and 20lb of beans. could probably find them for cheaper if you buy in bulk. I used to know a guy that bought a large supply of food and went off to his cabin, dunno for how long though. I really should try to get on a cheap but good enough diet, could save lots of money. just gotta get over the whole 'eat the same thing every day' thing.

I guess spam might last longer, think mine might only last for a year before it goes bad, I dunno. need to research other cheap but healthy foods.

one time I considered becoming homeless and just living from food stamps. lol.

I wish we still lived in simpler times. i could easily afford cheap foods and some kind of good enough shelter. I don't need any of this crazy and superfluous paying rent every month and constantly going to work stuff. people are so insane that they would work for 30 years to be able to afford a home. lol you can buy a home for 1000$.

I don't think its healthy to keep meat for that long...
Are you going somewhere? Christian prepper's forum may help you. I don't know where you can settle these days, land has already been taken. You'd have to go off the grid, rates and rents you cannot avoid paying. People already tried the hippie thing and it didn't work. Maybe the nomadic lifestyle is for you...? Or being called to missions. I'd like to know just how that works. Nobody calls me, and the way they've structured it now you have to fundraise your own airfare. What you end up doing is paying the mission agency, who doles out the money.

They can only afford to send people where there's a favourable exchange rate, and most of it goes into admin costs. I thought about it, but God really impressed on me thats an option for retired people who weren't selfish and spent all their children's inheritance.

Mission is in your own backyard first.

Revised my shopping list because I am now mAking it on a budget.

The only thing left to buy is sheepskin covered cushions. I looked online and they are not cheap. But surely with all these sheep in nz we can get them from somewhere. I dont know why the shops here insist on stocking ones made in china and then charge through the nose for them.

hurrah.

Cushions accomplished. Thank God for asian owned NZ souvenir shops. And they were cheaper than the ones made in China sold in the 'nz owned' stores.

I don't think I need to buy anything more except food for weeks now.

Uh. Can you afford all that? I heard SPAM isnt cheap.

Although if you sign up for it, its free online.

Where can I get free spam at?

would rather have a 3 year supply of rice and pinto beans. I think it cost like 23$ for 20lb of white rice and 20lb of beans. could probably find them for cheaper if you buy in bulk. I used to know a guy that bought a large supply of food and went off to his cabin, dunno for how long though. A survivalist has to be choose on the foods they pick. With SPAM you can open the can and eat it. If you buy beans or rice or Ramon noodles you will need water and what of there is no water.

I also like to buy cans of green beans and other veggies because they are packed in water and you can drink the water if there is no water.

Do not buy dehydrated foods because water may not be available and all of a sudden your dehydrated food is no good. Buy can meats and can vegetables.

Every week I go to Wal-Mart and buy the Great Value big packs of Tuna that are like $2 each and I store them away. They are good for at least 3 years and in reality if stored in a cool place will last for 7 years.

On weeks that I can afford it I like to buy $20 worth of packaged Great Value Tuna which is 10 packs. I like to buy a case of green beans in the can and a case of bottled water, on occasion I get Spam. It may sound dumb now but in 3 or 4 years we don't know, things change fast. In bad times when others are starving I will be eating three meals a day. It may always be a package of tune with a can of green beans with a bottled water but I will be healthy and not starving.

if I could ever figure out for sure what knife I want then I can finally buy one. i'm thinking I should go to the local pawn shop first, maybe I will get lucky and find a low costing knife made from a great steel like cpm3v, but I doubt it. I had the chance to get a GSO 5.1 but I freaked out cause I could not decide if I should get a stainless steel or the cpm3v tool steel. heck I could not decide on what color and type of handle to get, though now I think it will be the g10 blue and black handle. they were all gone in like.. 30 mins.. :( there are so many different +'s and -'s with knives, it makes it so hard to decide what I want.

gso 5.1

or I could wait for the price to drop again on the 5050 Survival Knife, which is the knife that our government gives to the navy seals. it's made of elmax stainless steel and is 1/4 an inch thick. the lowest I have seen it drop to is 275$ :,(

or maybe I should just be sane and wait for the price to drop really low on a bk32, sometimes they can even sell for 60$, the price is kind of high with them atm, 85$~, I don't wanna pay that much after i hear everyone saying they cost 60$, supply and demand I guess. but everyone says that the handles suck, plus the tang is skeletonized which i don't like but.. I doubt I could break it. the color of the handles is one of my fav colors too but if the handles are as bad as people say I would have to cough up like, 40 extra $ for decent handles.

orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I could get a esee 5 which cost a bit more but is better out of the box... noooooooooooooooooooo whyyy can't I decideeeeeeeeeeeeee

Me and you already talked about this in private but I am bored with nobody to talk to so I will answer here also.

CPM S3V is not a tool steel. It is a high quality stainless and it is a powder steel. It is nice wonderful stuff and will last for a long time but in the field it is hard to take care of. CPM S3V is meant to be sharpened at home with power appliances and then taken to the field and when you return home you re-touch it up. It is hard to keep maintained in the field. It can be done but you better be good at sharpening because stainless is very surface hard.

Tool steels are also nice but are the same way, way to hard to take care of in the field unless you are an expert at sharpening and have lots of time to dedicate to your knife every few weeks. It takes a long time for tool steals to go dull and if you touch them up every night they will stay long for a very long time but chip one and you are going to be in a fix.

This is why I like traditional high carbon steel like 1095 or 1085 and the such. I am not a big fan of 5160 in a knife but lots do and it is easier to work with then tool steel.

As for the GSO 5.1, it is very nice but also expensive. I have a Spyderco Military in CPM S30V and to me the edge did not really last that long. The edge is scary sharp when sharp but to me it went south fast which stainless is famous for.

Instead of the GSO 5.1 I would go with the ESEE 5 but first let me say that the 5050 Survival knife is nothing special and being given to Navy Seals is not that impressive as the military use knives and then throw them away after one use. So lets replace the GSO with the ESEE 5 and lets forget about the 5050 period.

The BK32 is an ok knife when they were 50 bucks but they are way too high now days. I started my knife hobby with a BK9 and a BK2 and the BK9 is really the only one I like but I liked it when it we $69 and not the over $80 it is now day plus the handles are not very good because they are too slippery and they will wear your hand out fast. Also the bolts in the handles come loose and you have to lock tight them in which is not something you are suppose to do to a knife.

So the GSO is being replaced with the ESEE 5 and lets forget about the 5050 and the BK32 which is a thin BK2. Becker's are good but not at the price they are now days.

So that leaves the ESEE 5. Now ESEE use to have their knives made by Ontario and they were the RAT series. The knives that ESEE make now are pretty much the same that Ontario use to produce for them but Ontario produces them at a lot better price.

An ESEE 5 runs about $150 plus.
http://www.amazon.com/ESEE-5P-OD-Canvas-Micarta-Handle/dp/B004HGI9WE

Or you could get the original from Ontario when it was the RAT series and get the RAT-5 for $69 plus free shipping to your local Wal-Mart.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ontario-Knife-Company-RAT-5-1095-Knife/22339728

I myself would upgrade to the RAT-7 for less than 10 bucks more.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ontario-Knife-Company-RAT-7-1095-Knife/22339726

Or you can go with the Ontario RAK (Ranger Attack Knife) which to me seems like a better bush craft knife because it is more of a Kephart design which bush crafters want.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ontario-Knife-Company-RAK-Ranger-Assault-Knife-Black-Micarta/22339760

Now you have quality knives at a very affordable price and it is better to learn what you like in a knife by using entry level priced knives than to buy $300 knives and find out you don't like them.

I myself use a Boker Plus Vox Rold in D2 but I am shying away from it and going back to my simple KA-BAR USMC which I always find myself coming back to because it simply works.

yeah i don't think I want a stainless steel. but if I buy me the 3v gso 5.1 I can see how hard it is to sharpen and if I don't like it I can sell it for full price I bet. ug the esee 5 cost more than i thought. but the rat 5 looks like it has a full flat grind. I guess that is okay, though I would prefer a saber grind. it is a lot cheaper :0 . is the rat-5 1/4 an inch thick? i'm thinking 3/16 is ideal.

I did not think about the 3v chipping out and being so hard to fix in the field. I guess there is a lot of reasons why so many prefer 1095. but what if I don't care how long it takes to fix? if my situation was so serious as that I guarantee you that I will be homeless and will have lots of free time lol.

I will prob buy me a husqvarna axe though. there is no way i'm gonna pay 230~$ for a gransfors bruks small forest axe. are husqvarna axe convex or scandi? how the heck am I supposed to touch up a convex axe in the field? or do even the GB axe have a semi convex edge to them? can you touch up a convex edge axe with a file?

bah if SHTF I don't think it will be that long of a bad time. there are already so many systems in place already, they would just need tinkering. what could even be the cause wherein you would need to stock up with a years supply? think if that happens... you know people are gonna try to rob you at gunpoint over food. if things got that bad it might be better to go and sustain yourself in the wilds of alaska or something like that lol. but if things got that bad, lots of people will be dying and PLENTY of people will be over hunting wild animals. might be better to just die lol.

Sorry you seem a bit obssesed noxot.
If theres going to be a famine, prepare for it, but you seem to be anxious over everything when God will provide if you trust Him. If you need and item, ask God to show you the best one.
If someone does rob you cos they hungry, just let them have it. You a christian, you share and give what you have with others not just yourself. Remember the miracle of the loaves and fishes. How was Jesus going to feed all these hungry people? He didnt have a years supply of food, and a boy only had two loaves and five fishes.
yet Jesus mutiplied this.

Also when the disciples went fishing and didnt catch anything? Jesus told them go on the other side and their nets were full. They caught 153 fish.

@Goodbook

But you also need to remember that it is told that we will have about 7 years of very hard times and that about 1/3 of everything will be wiped out. I believe we are at the door step of those happenings.

I believe God gave us warnings so we can be ready. In the old testament he told one of his followers to save up enough stuff for sever years worth of famine and by doing so the follower became great in the land. He did not wait for God to feed him daily but we listened to Gods warning and saved up.
