Eh.. I've seen a little Fat Albert.. although it wasn't on the tv much.
I think you are demolishing my childhood idols. You must plan to spoil me a great deal for the trauma you’re causing. *lol
Dang, I sure hope you don't happen across anyone going on the Jerusalem/Jericho road!I didn't hate Mr. Rogers, but I wasn't interested in his show because he'd insist on calling me his neighbor. At the end of the day, he was some guy on a tv set in Pittsburgh, and he didn't live anywhere close enough to me to qualify.
I liked those old Charlie Brown cartoons if that means anything, lol.
@MehGuy
What are you up to today? I'm being domestic and tackling the pantry and bulk items. My woodworking instructor is coming by to put bookcases together for me. I've had them for months! I need to take inventory and organize things.
Had to do some errands today. But thankfully that's all over now. Going back to work Thursday. Just relaxing until then.
That sounds cool. You should take a picture of the finished product.
I don’t like errands now. They tire me out. *lol
I’m working on the bulk purchases. I have 6 shopping bags. I need to move it to jars but I want the slender ones by Weck. The other brand is too wide.
Inventory is the primary motive for the next 2 days. I have no room in the pantry and the overflow in other places is making me twitchy. We’re creating a utility room and moving the food, freezer, appliances and my bike in one spot. It will do wonders for my mood. I hate clutter!
I’m storing it in bookcases with labeled bins. These are the jars I’m talking about. I have some already. This is the look we’re going for with the pantry (before & after).
Yeah, especially during this pandemic. I always have to make sure I have a mask on, and wipe down everything I take home.
That looks pretty cool. I'd probably have no idea what to do with all of those ingredients, lol.
Yeah. My daughter does the shopping or we use Instacart. I went to Whole Foods 3 times to grab bulk items. But I haven’t been to other stores.
I learned how to cook from watching PBS. Julia Child was my favorite but I got serious in my late teens. I followed The Frugal Gourmet and Food Network. Then I discovered food forums. We selected a cookbook and one for baking each month and tried recipes. When Julia died I felt a strong urge to go to school. It was a long held desire. So I did.
But kitchens aren’t like the corporate world. The yelling disturbs me. My chef wasn’t Ramsey but heck. I needed a calm space to create! I could never do it for a living. But I learned to cook. Really cook.
We used to log our cookbooks online. I’ve lost count and starting purchasing new ones through Kindle. I love domestic stuff. My inner housewife is sated.
If memory serves you don’t cook too often. How’s the book coming along?
I'll have to look into delivery systems. I haven't even used Amazon yet. Sometimes I feel like I am trapped in an old fashioned shopping mindset, lol. I imagine when I'm a senile old man I'll hate everything new.. lol.
Wasn't there a movie about Julia? Sorry to hear she died.
I imagine the cooks are under a lot of pressure, especially at the higher end restaurants. Sometimes I watch this Japanese sushi chef master on Youtube. The videos can get graphic. He doesn't hesitate to kill his dishes live on camera. What he makes looks great though. There are times he does fun videos too, like cooking fish bought at the dollar store.
I hardly cook, and usually just buy frozen food. The book is coming along, took a week off though. Needed a break. I fear that if I write too much it will become stale.
Stop! Are you serious? I order everything I can. It adds time to my day.
She had a long life and died at 90. You’re probably thinking of Julie and Julia. I used to read the blog. It was crazy. Cooking through those books and making a different dish every night with no culinary training? *lol
You need to watch Thomas Keller. His kitchen is divine. Calm and relaxed with classical music in the background. He’s a culinary genius. But for entertainment I enjoyed Hell’s Kitchen. He had me in stitches. I watched his UK program where he helped restaurants in need. Gosh, that guy is too much! He says what you’re thinking but it’s the stuff you’d keep inside. Out of bounds.
Yes, I noticed.
Breaks are good. You seem disciplined. You’ll get back to it. I’ve been wanting to write but I need a muse. Egads I’m knee deep in the creative camp. *lol Never thought I’d say that but I require compelling for certain things. The push does me good.
Despite my palate for beer, whisky - (and so on...) I eat pretty bland food 90% of the time. Pasta, I'll just boil it up, drain it out and eat it as it is. Same thing with rice too; I'm quite content with it. A few twists of cracked salt is usually enough for most situations.
Meat joints, just slice em' up and throw them in a brioche bap. (The fat should be all the taste you need.)
Taste is the central theme in my cooking. I eat for flavor. Quality ingredients are a must. It sates the palate.
Yeah. I am thinking of ordering a new TV through Amazon. I just hope it's safe.
I guess that's long. I knew a woman who lived to be a 122. 32 more years. Oh Julie and Julia. I was going to watch it, but it looked too feminine for me. Lol.
Hmm. Not sure if I have ever seen Hell's Kitchen before. Does Thomas Keller hunt his own food too?
I know I'm pathetic, lol.
I find that is true as well. When I was a teenager I had all the inspiration in the world and then some, now it's hard to come by. I do believe the notion that most people get their good ideas during their late teens and early 20s.
The TV or Amazon? I’d go to Costco instead. Better warranty. You can order online.
What’s wrong with that? *lol
I don’t think so. He probably orders it. Do you want to hunt?
Nah, you need a wife.
I need male energy. It inspires a different measure of effort. Especially in areas on the back burner. I 10X them and become super domestic and want to write and create significantly more. Men can motivate me to do things I’d drag my feet on. By men I mean my partner.
Agree. As someone with no sense of smell I need all the taste I can get. Which is why I should probably avoid those TV dinners.
It would be interesting being a chef making food specially designed for those who cannot smell. I'd go to a restaurant like that in a heartbeat, lol.
