No worries, I loathe Love Actually and Strike on Christmas, haha. I am not sure if I have seen the other two, but they don’t sound promising. I typically watch It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol, Miracle on 34th Street and The Bells of St. Mary’s every year. Normally I watch It’s a Wonderful Life every Christmas Eve, but this year my sister and I changed it up and watched Meet Me in St. Louis instead. I highly recommend The Bells of St. Mary’s ( if anyone hasn’t seen it ). Personally, I think it is the better Bing Crosby Christmas movie. I was never a huge fan of White ChristmasJust please don't let it be Strike on Christmas, Dear Santa, Love Actually, or Christmas With a Capital C.![]()
Nobody with a car note or a mortgage is ever truly "free" unfortunately.
I agree. When I had a credit score done a few years ago when I was applying for a mortgage, it was explained to me that certain kinds of debt are not considered a liability and this “debt”can actually work in your favor. A mortgage isn’t considered a negative debt. It’s actually more of an investment. A house you are paying off is an asset as opposed to monthly rent which is just an expense.I guess it depends on how you define the word “free.” Debt-free, certainly not, but if this is a reference to “the borrower is slave to the lender,” that’s talking about freedom in a rather specific sense.
Also, I would argue that a mortgage is the only type of debt that has the potential to be a blessing. Having your own house, given that the payment is well within your means, can be a huge blessing, and in some cases it is more financially favorable than renting.

What also helps is if you have a record of borrowing small amounts of money and paying it off in a timely manner. That shows lenders that you are reliable with repayment. They also look to see credit card history. Contrary to what people fear, credit cards are not a gateway to debt ( when used responsibly)
I was told that having a few credit cards that you used regularly and paid off balances timely really bumps up your score. You actually need to borrow small amounts of money and pay it off for at least a year or two before applying for a mortgage

I was actually talking about being free from work which the post I quoted implied. Nothing more. From what I remember he just got a new car.I guess it depends on how you define the word “free.” Debt-free, certainly not, but if this is a reference to “the borrower is slave to the lender,” that’s talking about freedom in a rather specific sense.

If you do not have a note, you can go without working and lose nothing (not saying it would be ideal, having to scrounge food, living out of wherever..etc but ultimately you lose nothing by not working when you don't owe anybody anything)
Was simply pointing out that sadly when you owe people, that freedom is short lived.
Agreed it IS none of my business, but considering that it was a public forum he made it open for everyone to comment........you assume rudeness where none was intended, but if it makes you feel better. Kudos. And I decided to remark more or less because your comment was kind of rude/outside the range of what is your business.

Okay, we’re not gonna have conversations anymore, cause nothing is anyone’s business.
