Out of curiosity what are you doing to these people for them to say such things. If one persons say what you say they are saying I would blow it off but if many people are saying it I would find out why. Are you too competitive at work?
Oh no, this wasn't at work. (There's really nothing to compete OVER. =P ) And I did not mean to say that it is said to me specifically all of the time. Just that I see it happening between Christians all of the time. The old "No true Scotsman" problem.
We are called to exhort one another in Christ and we are always to do so from love. Exhortation is not condemnation.
Right, there is a difference.
I know you mean exhortation, Lioness, but some people don't seem to understand the difference between the two terms.
what I meant was what were you discussing that brought such comments about.
Oh, you know what it was? My saying that there's no reason to automatically say someone is being used by Satan for watching anime in general. Like, the person who claimed it was making a broad statement about the culture. And I said simply, there's both good and bad in every kind of media culture - books, TV, gaming, all. And she goes, those who would defend such things have the spirit of the world and are estranged from God (I don't think I have the exact order of words there correct, but it was definitely the gist of condemnation.) I don't even LIKE most anime I have seen, so I really can't say I am getting defensive simply because she attacked a hobby of my own that I am biased for; I was just sticking up for others in general who may be bigger fans of it when she started condemning it. God knows the heart, no one else, so I just don't think it is other humans' responsibility to judge in any way, form, or fashion a person's status as a believer in Christ over some stupid thing they like to watch. I really just shouldn't have gotten involved.
But again, while I was upset a bit in the moment last night for being personally insinuated to not be a true believer, it more just bothers me that this kind of thing happens between believers all of the time.
I didn't mean to make a shot at anyone, if that's what you mean, Reese. That was not intended. I was just explaining that we can't just assume.
I think Reese was speaking for me there, Sheena. Not what you said. I know you were trying to give well-meaning advice.
I think there is something to what both @leothelioness and @ReesePiece23 have said there, on one hand not caring whether other people think you are a real believer or not, and on the other hand taking other people's faith seriously in terms of working together as the body of Christ to set an example before unbelievers. Like most things, I am sure it is best that there is a balance between the two.
