Yep, now you have to have 1000 subscribers to be monetized. So maybe again in like 10 years :p

You got Logan Paul to thank for that.
Yeah, as much as it stinks, I get it. Kids don't have discretion nowadays, filming dead bodies and whatnot. In order to keep YouTube ad friendly they need to be able to review monetized videos and with the previous requirements that was just way too many people.

That's just the thing. In the old days television and radio were the prime sources of entertainment and they needed rules and regulations for their content creators to keep the channel/station advertiser friendly. Back in those days you had to jump through several hoops to get approved to go on air. With the internet and websites like YouTube, the rules and regulations are far looser, the audience the creators want is much easier to get a hold of, and the content is reliant on independent individuals and/or groups instead of established companies. Of course with this source of content, there's going to be a lot of creative liberties and risk taking that don't always pay off.

Sadly enough, the risk taking has gotten out of hand and YouTube realizes they need to make some more professional changes if they want to be able to make a profit from advertisements. I think this can be used as an example why allowing too much creative freedom can cause harm in the long run.

Is that the guy who was tastelessly using the corpses of real people in his videos or something?

He went into the suicide forest in Japan and found a body which he then filmed close up while making jokes and laughing and used it as his thumbnail.

Then he "apologized" by saying he didn't do it for views because he gets views already. He included a self promoting hashtag in the apology.

Then he came back with a strategic psa on suicide talking about all the things he learned, and immediately undid any good from that by making jokes about it and bragging that despite his hiatus he still managed to GAIN subscribers.

THEN he released another video in which he was tasing dead animals.

So yeah, guy is messed up.

I knew some of that story, but hadn't heard about the animal video. Mainly because I stopped watching or paying any attention to the news articles about him. Absolutely disgusting.
Where are his parents? His family? They can't go to sleep honestly being proud of their son.

Guess there's another friend I lost. Not sure if it's my fault, their fault, my mental illness's fault, or combination of things...

Blah :(

That really sucks, and sorry to hear that. Real life or online, if I may ask?

Online. I don't have friendships offline at this point in my life.
