CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Went on a Craigslist furniture pickup adventure today, ended up being kinda fun. One of the places had this giant dog that I played with a little. When I got home my cat smelled it wildly and then purred and cuddled with my leg. This is NOT helping my puppy craziness.

Family bought me a dog when I was 15/16. She enriched and still enriches my life and my family's life so much... helped me through a lot of dark times. There's a lot of baggage that comes with a dog, but if you figure you can handle the baggage, then it's all so worth it.
Mine's 9 now, and although she's technically mine she lives with my Mom since I'm not situated for a dog. But I see her all the time... she's great.

Dogs are wonderful. Cats are great too (I even like them better) but there's something so joyful about a house with a dog in it. Itd be especially nice here because there's so much hiking around me. But I just don't think I'm in a place where I could accommodate a dog like I'd want to...

Wound up pretty tight right now. Issues with the dam in my county is causing mass evacuations... I'm not affected cause my town's north of the flood zone but a lot of people are coming into my town now.
What a night. Been tweeting a crapload of info to evacuees trapped on the highway... my brain's tired.

Yeah, I hear ya. Dogs, especially young dogs, really need a good amount of space to run free.

-sigh- I actually have a good amount of space right now. I'm in a little house with my own backyard and two levels...
Really the only things stopping me are 1) i have a lot of travel plans this year, 2) I know I'll be moving in a little over a year to who knows where. Are those good enough reasons not to do it?

I suppose it might depend on how long you plan on traveling. If your heart can handle it, you could put the dog in a kennel for the time you're traveling if it isn't too long. Or leave it with friends/family if that's an option.
Moving I wouldn't see too much of an issue with as long as you don't plan to move into a small apartment or something.
But dogs do come with a lot of baggage. And some people I know can't handle leaving their dogs emotionally, and I don't blame them for being like that really... but you can't let a dog run your life, like, you can't revolve everything around a dog. Not saying you would, just saying that some people get real emotional with dogs, too emotional.
I know one guy, a friend of my family's, who literally will rush home after work every day to be with his dog, won't travel, won't go out anywhere too long each day. He tells whoever he dates that his dog comes first, and he's still single for that reason lol.
Just gotta know where you stand on those sorts of things, how your life will change and stuff.
