  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The only thing they'd have to do to get me in the plane right now would be to remove their huge spiders from the landscape.... ;)

Them and every other species of creature that seems to be out to kill you over in Australia.

A friend of mine from from tae kwon do class when I still lived in Marshall, Texas posted this observation on Facebook a moment ago, and I would like to share it simply because it seems intelligent and balanced, rather than an extreme knee-jerk reaction for or against either side in the seeming growing problem with interactions between cops and black people in this country:

I want to sincerely thank the Marshall, TX police for always being fair, and *good* to me. On a near-accident stop, I was treated fairly, and let go by a white cop. I even had two as sparring and practice partners in Tae Kwon Do and Krav Maga. I know that the profession is under attack, and I wish those in the wrong and their superiors would take responsibility, and I also wish that there was less "cops never do wrong" going on. However, I also know that the despicable actions of the few do not represent the whole. The Marshall police were always on the level, and I appreciate their efforts, hard work, and ability to be, as far as I know, fair to people of all ethnicities and social classes.

So, thank you, Louis Spears, for keeping a level head about you in this subject and not wholly blaming either side. Maybe it will spread to other people who read this.

It's not the getting killed by them part really that creeps me. We have bears and wolves too. If I'm going to get eaten by an animal, can I at least ask to be eaten by a mammal, and not by a bug?

The locals here in Manhattan seem a little nervous whenever I open my mouth. Some young lad in a fast food restaurant just now literally asked me what I wanted, like, three times, and took forever to count my change. He was absolutely fine with the person before me.

That wasn't an isolated incident either. 9 times out of 10 when I ask a local a question, I'm met with a wide eyed expression, followed by a hesitant pause, and then a long "Errrrr..."

I haven't noticed this so much in the Times Square area, it's more the lower part of Manhattan.

Pop Tarts are disgusting by the way.

How palatable Pop Tarts are depends on flavor and whether you've actually heated them up in a toaster (and for how long).

Although, honestly speaking, I'd rather have Toaster Strudel.

Maybe it's the accent that throws people. In university I had a friend who moved here from London. One of our profs would openly say he had to rearrange his brain before he could understand her LOL. I had never heard that excuse before, but you never know....

And Pop Tarts have to be toasted otherwise they're not worth it.
But more importantly listen to Qyöt27!

Ain't this the truth. Those things are amazing!
