  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I've always thought that conservative Christian or liberal Christian was a bit of a misnomer, but I would definitely lie on the conservative side of the spectrum (from a moral perspective, at least).

I'd probably be considered politically conservative as well, but politics as of late is of little to no interest to me just because the two sides seem to have become too extreme. And I think politics infiltrating the church has been damaging, IMO.

I think the term conservative is a bit of a misnomer

I think "orthodox" and "unorthodox" would be better terms, to stop any confusion with politics

Yeah I agree, using the same terms which are also used in politics seems to cause a lot of confusion. I think there's a lot of people who don't even separate the two (political stance vs. moral stance).

Kate & Williams the duke and duchess of Cambridge are in Australia. They are all over the news and massive crowds gather wherever they go just to see and take pictures of them.
I wonder if all this is idolatry.. It's feels like idolatry to me.

I feel the same way about the idolatry thing.
Tax money abused.

Honestly, things were a lot worse with churches and political sides in bed with each other 10-15 years ago in the US. There's still more interplay than there should be, but it seems like it's better than it was then. It drove me nuts back then because I was a bit farther left than I am now and I was pretty much Satan incarnate for having supported a few Democrats.

I didn't notice it so much before 9/11 (I had just become a Christian in 2000), but afterwards I did. War has a way of complicating things, I guess. I do feel like the Churches I've been to recently are much different, and it isn't so prevalent.

The political arena seems like a different matter, however, and I think the polarization it caused is still affecting us today. And it doesn't help that the media feeds it as well. Whatever they can do to get ratings, I guess.

Fast day.

No one ever cooks bacon, I never so much as smell it. Today everyone and their dog is cooking bacon, the air is full of bacon fat smell. Perhaps if I go for a walk I'll escape the smell of bacon. It makes me feel sick, especially on a fast day. I think the empty stomach combined with salty bacon fat scent makes for a queasy feeling.
