I've been thinking about one of the kids I worked with last week. We were having dinner with my parents tonight and I was telling them about how much I love to read stories.
This week, I got to take all of the books I bought to read to the kids. They kept asking for more so I told them I was going to read a special story that I got. Its called The Tree and I got it from the NAEYC conference I went to last year. I remember cause it really pulled me in when I was walking through all the booths to see what I could get.
While reading the story there is part that is really moving. Its when the bulldozers have destroyed all of the trees expect for the Douglas Fir tree. I remember the tone of my voice changing when I read that part, and then I looked down and there was one of the little girls, and she was crying. I asked her, "why are you crying?" And she said, "I want my mommy."
I don't know if it was the story or she just wanted her mommy for no other reason but to want her, but I kept thinking of that moment this whole week.
