Different conversations I've had keep bringing up this question in my mind. I really have no idea what heaven is going to be like.

Are there going to be animals there? Will I see my beloved dog again?

Will I spend eternity with my husband, as his wife? Will we live together? Will we have physical bodies? Will we be physical with each other?

Will we work? Will there be a society? Will it be like earth, only perfect?

What will we do? How will we spend our days? Will there be days, and nights, and years, and time?

Are there verses or passages in the Bible that describe heaven in any clear-cut way?

Lots of questions... sorry, all this just runs through my mind and I can't fathom what heaven will be like -at all-.

In a nutshell, it's too good to imagine. But we have some clues.

"And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.'” - Revelation 21:3,4

"The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of pure gold, like transparent glass." - Revelation 21:18-21

I've heard one paster interpret this (and this is just his interpretation) that gold and all that precious stuff we value here will be as common and as valuble as asphalt. The really good stuff is too good for us to imagine.

There's plenty more where that came from in that whole chapter and in the next one.

I don't know if there will be animals, and there is nothing in Scripture to suggest that dogs or any other animals have souls. So I would guess not (I lost a dog in the last year, so I know how you feel). Also, marraige and sex will be obsolete. " At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. " - Matthew 22:30. But since there will be no crying, mourning or pain, it doesn't look like marraige and sex will be missed. People are due for an upgrade with a new heavenly body (1 Corinthians 15:35-42).

There's a story about two monks. They made a deal that the one who passes away first and gets to heaven comes back to tell to the other one what is it like. So happened. The other monk died and the otherone begin to wait to hear something from him. One night this monk had a dream were he saw his friend. He asked: Now tell me, what heaven is like? Is there golden streams and pearly gates or what?? The other one said shortly: It's totally different.

Heaven is totally different. It's difficult to imagine and to describe when we don't have word's enough for it. What is it like to live with God forever? What is it like when imperfections of this world is not there anymore?

Well, it will be good. Really good. We won't have the feeling that anything is missing. But it will be so good that we can't imagine it now. And the Bible really only gives hints.

We do know that "At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven" (Matthew 22:30). That because the contact between souls that is possible here on earth in marriage will be possible in heaven between all.

Or to look at it another way, the relationship between husband and wife, when it reaches its very best, is probably the best hint of what heaven will be like.

Revelations 21 says the most about heaven, although much of the language is symbolic:

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars–their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates and its walls. The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia in length, and as wide and high as it is long. He measured its wall and it was 144 cubits thick, by man's measurement, which the angel was using. The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. The great street of the city was of pure gold, like transparent glass.

I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.

I really appreciate these responses, especially all those verses from Revelation. I find that to be a really hard book to understand, in general, so I don't spend a lot of time on it usually. Maybe I should look at it more.

I guess heaven really isn't anything that can be understood or fully appreciated right now. I just can't help but wonder though. :)

Thanks to all of you!

I honestly dont know, beautiful, wonderful is all i can think of.
I think we will spend our days worshipping, there will be no tears.
We will walk on roads paved of Gold.
Jesus said there is a mansion with many rooms.
I know in the Gospel it says at first the disciples didnt recognize Jesus after he rose from the dead, so I am going to ASSUME that we will have a different body.
I dont know if we will know each other, I think we will all be so busy worshipping and singing praises.
I can not even imagine what it will be like to be in the presence of God - something so wonderful, something we can hardly imagain. I can not wait to spend eternity in Heaven.

I sincerely urge you to click this link http://www.eaglevision.com.my/ssvisions.htm (A book called Visions of Spiritual World written by Sadhu Sundar Singh, a twentieth century Apostle of India) and read the complete page till the end. Sadhu Sundar Singh's spirit was taken to heaven and the spiritual world and he was able to see them. This book has been a great blessing to me. You will get a fantastic idea of what heaven would be like apart from what the Bible scriptures describe.

So he says.
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. (1 John 4:1-3)

Radagast : May i know if you have read the book and saying this? If not, i would say read the book and then give your opinion. Sadhu Sundar Singh is highly regarded as one of the greatest christian saint by most christians in India and his life is a challenging example to everyone of us here. If you read his biography, then you would surely know that your christian life was nothing when compared to his. Without knowing anything about him you cannot say "So he says". This also shows that you are so carelessly rejecting another bro-in-christ's input here. I may be least among all of you, but still i am giving an input here for due consideration.

I appreciate your comment that one has to test the spirits. But, it is not enough to quote a scripture and say "Test the spirits". The way i would test is by reading the whole page (book) and also read his biography and decide for myself whether the person and his book is true or not.

Only an immatured christian would be scared to read this book fearing s(he) might get misguided. However, a matured christian after reading thoroughly can judge correctly.

Pls be reminded that you may be commiting the sin of wrongly judging a Man of God and his valuable spiritual experiences and you may be responsible for depriving our fellow-christians from reading the valuable spiritual book by your hasty comments.

I read the page, and then showed it to my husband. I am a new Christian (hence I'm posting in this forum ;)) but he is not, so I wanted his input. This was his reaction:

Revelation 22:18 (New International Version)

18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.

He says:
"MAN CAN NEVER BE DESTROYED

Nothing in this whole universe was ever destroyed, nor can it ever be,
because the Creator has never created anything for destruction. If He
had wished to destroy it, He would never have created it. And if
nothing in creation can be destroyed, then how can man be destroyed,
who is the crown of creation, and the image of his Creator? Can God
Himself destroy His own image, or can any other creature do it? Never!
If a man is not destroyed at death then at once the question arises,
where will man exist after death, and in what state?"

But the Bible says:
2 Peter 3:7
"By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire,
being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men."

He says:
"God neither casts any one into hell, nor will He ever do so, but man
himself, by being entangled in sin, creates hell for himself. God
never created any hell."

But the Bible says:
Mark 9:47
"And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you
to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be
thrown into hell"

I could probably find more, but that's enough for me to not believe
what he wrote.

As a new Christian, what I read on the webpage sounded like it could be right to me. But having the contradictions to the Bible pointed out to me, at this point I could not believe that what he wrote is true. That doesn't mean he wasn't a great Christian man, I don't know enough to say that, he may very well have been. But I don't think all visions come from God, or are prophecy, and even a great Christian man can be mistaken.

Oh, I read it. I was making a general point about testing private "revelations", but as Snoochface has pointed out, he is contradicted by the Bible.

He may indeed be holier than me, but that doesn't prove his "revelations" are genuine. And, unlike other great Indian saints, he rejected the Church to pursue his own version of Christianity.

Conversely, there are indeed things in his writings that are good.
