hi, I'm new here. I'm a Southern Baptist (more calvinistic than other Baptists, I think, LOL!!)... I grew up presbyterian then Baptist... and my dad is a Methodist minister. It gets confusing, so I'll just say I'm somewher ebetween conservatice and semi-conservative, LOL!!
ANYWAY....

What is Anabaptist? what does that mean? Is it a different sect?
I have never heard of it before.... are there some slightly different beliefs?
Just curious. Thanks!!

yes indeed, if you go down a few threads you will find this discussed, try the next few pages, i know its there... SImply the 'anabaptist' means anti-baptise, at least the original idea was a breakaway from 'catholic' tradition of infant baptism, thus the 'anabaptists' were anti-infant baptism and were 'rebaptised' as believeing adults. I think is correct, but as i said before go to the other threads...

Not exactly. The prefix "ana-" means "again." It has nothing to do with the prefix "anti-" which means "against."

Anabaptists were given this name by their opponents because they baptized people again as adults who had previously been baptized as infants. This is because they had a different view of the significance of baptism, and felt it was meaningless (perhaps invalid) if not done voluntarily on the part of the candidate, rather than at the request of surrogates.
