Charge card bill arrives. It has a number of mysterious transactions on it. Call charge card company. They say they will investigate and get back to you. They call back an hour later asking if you have spoken to your husband about the charges as the calls are to sex lines. Knowing your husband it isn't likely but people are surprised about such things at times. You have also used your charge card as ID before so know that store workers have had access to the details they would need to give over the phone. So it could be anyone really and the charge card person has said it does happen at times that someone does this with someone else's charge card details. One day when one of the calls was made was your birthday and your husband was home all day though he did have a rest in the bedroom that day which contains a phone. Which would assume he would take the risk when you are there. Your husband denies any knowledge of the calls. You also know that your husband knows you see the charge card bills as they come in. Do you trust your husband who has given you no reason to doubt him in the past? Since then you have cancelled the charge cards and got new ones and nothing has happened outside that timeframe.

Thank you. I do trust my husband. I know the man he is. Someone told me I was being gullible but I didn't think so. It's good to see others see this event the same way.

Did you ask him? Tell him they are on the bill and let him know you didn't make them. Did you?

Of course. I asked him if he knew what they were before I contacted the charge card company. He had no idea what they were and I have no reason to doubt his reaction when I told him what they were. I dismissed it outright when told what they were over the phone knowing he'd been with me on one of the days. Chances of it being him are very slim even if he would do that sort of thing which I don't believe he would. A significant number of people have access to the card details as these transactions don't require a signature. We've agreed not to use these cards as our form of ID again to prevent this sort of thing being able to happen in future.

Can the sex line people trace the calls they billed for? If your card was used fraudulently I would think the cops could get a warrant for such information.

Its probably not that dramatic, the credit card company will just reverse the charges and send you a new card. If I were the OP I would pay the card off and cancel it and cut it up. I have like 3 bills now and its great, I live off of cash and have quite a bit of disposable income, I will have 10k saved before christmas so why would I need a credit card. Credit is very nefarious, the reason prices on things like cars and houses are so inflated is because of access to credit, way back in the day they could never sell things for what they do now because no one could afford it, companies were forced to sell things at prices people could afford without having to make payments for the rest of their lives.

:thumbsup::amen: Excellent point!!!! I am all about living with in our means. It's completely odd in this day and age, but I'm all about it! I was watching a show awhile back , where this young married couple were living with his parents while both worked full time, and saved all of their money until they could buy a house with cash. That really is how it should be done. Debt is nothing but bondage. It's slavery!

I've had my debit card number stolen without my card ever leaving my purse; the people were caught purchasing some big-ticket items from a Wal-Mart 3 states away.

Change the card and trust the husband.
That is scary! How did that happen w/o your card leaving your purse?

Now that I have disposible income I can have in investment account and I can make money without working to hard for it, other than having a little intuition about the market. BTW natural gas is at major lows (GAZ ETN).

I misworded that...basically, my physical card wasn't stolen, but someone hacked into the computer system at the grocery store I shop at and took a bunch of numbers. So, I still had my card...but THEY had my number and PIN. It was all found out quickly and I didn't lose any money (the bank reimbursed for the one charge that WAS discovered)...but it was still pretty scary stuff.

Oh wow.....scary stuff. I hope that was awhile ago...I am thinking these days numbers are encrypted to where that can't happen. Hopefully I am not living with a false sense of security.

Kind of drifting off topic, but something I am really leary of is how at restaurants they take the card out of our view. I have heard that it is common for employees to take a picture of the card with a camera phone--and sell the number. We try to use the same card for all restuarant purchases--it is an Amex...and they are very helpful in disputes of charges..unfortunatley we know by experience. That or pay cash at restaurants where that is their practice.

If you ask me, I really doubt that your husband would be calling up sex lines with a credit card when he knows you see the bill.

He would not only have to be seeking to deceive you but he'd have to be amazingly stupid as well. So I think its safe to assume your identity was stolen.
