  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pretend the Double trick question doesn't work and your spouse answers, "Just becuase I want your Honest Opinion"

You are forced into answering the question... what do you say?
I would say if you really want my HONEST answer then I will give it to you but don't take this as I am not attracted to you still because I diffentely am.

I have NEVER figured out why women in paticular ask their H's if they look fat?? I know if I have gained weight & what I need working on. Or if I am outta shape I will say " I really need to work out."

I think this is certainly a case where stating the whole truth may be inadvisable. A negative response can and will be used against you at some point of time in the future. When your spouse asks this question, aren't they really just looking for a little reassurance? I never ask my wife this question, because quite obviously "I ain't a good as I once was", and I really don't want her to have to lie. :)

It''s obviously a challenge to the husband, because you can't win either way! If hubby says (nicely) well, yes honey, you gained a couple of pounds, but I love you anyway - SLAM!!! Or, oh no, you look like you did in your high school picture, the wife will KNOW he's being insincere - and SLAM again.

What would be a good response? How about a humorous one, in which husband wheels around, takes his wife in his arms and dips her, and starts singing slightly off key, "Dont go changin'"? Breaking into dance musical could hopefully defuse the situation.

I just do not understand why the wife would want reassurance?? That seems like an self-esteem thing to me. Especially if EVERYTHING is going good in the relationship.

Like that one commercial where the wife walks in & asks her H if she looks fat in the dress she has on & he is reading the newspapaer. I don't get those commercials.

After a certain age, I guess you start to worry a little about the changes you are going through. You get used to looking a certain way and then you wake up one morning and things jiggle that didn't use to, things sag and hang a little lower, little lines start showing up on your face and it is hard to adjust sometimes.

I think you can have all the self esteem in the world and be very happy to be you, but it's still nice to hear that your other half still thinks you are attractive.

Are you really 26, 4jacks? If so, wait until you are in your 50's, dude. Real love is beneath the skin, don't you think?

Yes, I'm 26... Another thread got me thinking about this, and this is something that me and my wife have talked about. She insists that if she starts to get out of shape, that I put a gun to her head and drag her to the gym and dump her on the treadmill.

And not all old people get out of shape, we have seen several older people who we aspire to age as gracefully as.

What's the point in competing in a fitness competition that is only looking at the removal of fat when there's not much to remove, at least not except at the expense of my health :help: What I need are long endurance muscles..... I think we should meet and compete in a 5k guys v. guys, girls v. girls.... THAT is a competition.

Then you better not only focus on your exercise but also your diet.

I've already explained, it's not just Weight Loss, it's Most improved in what ever your goals are, I'm trying to Gain Weight, most are trying to lose weight, you could also go for toning up. Or you go from just begin skinny and undefined to being toned up and sculpted that would do it =þ

And I'm not snorting no 5 kilo's of Coke, That's crazy even if we all did get together

Right - ideally, we should all strive for perfection in our exercise and eating habits. Even so, genes have a lot to do with it, metabolism, general health. Someone with a prediliction for heart disease and weight gain the family struggles all the harder. But that's not the point - say even if one worked out really hard every day, and ate right, and kept one's body thin and as taut as one could manage - the sags and wrinkles still happen. I don't care if the guy was Jack Lalanne (remember him, folks - the fitness guru from the 1950's and '60's), when the older man or woman gets a certain age, NO amount of exercise is going to remedy saggy butt, arm-wings, falling chin wattle, or a wrinkly belly. Only plastic surgery takes care of that.

If it goes back to the simple question, "am I still physically attractive?" , then I think it should be answered honestly. In every other aspect of our relationship we should strive to be open and honest if questions are asked...this is no different. I've asked my dh this before and I had to draaag the truth out of him ;) He answered kindly and didn't insult me but basically I figured out that he liked it when I wore "cute" clothes. I had been wearing sweats, etc for awhile after having one of my babies...I was so grateful for his open honesty. As his wife, I want to please him and it wasn't any trouble to be dressed cute for him again so he could find me physically attractive. I would always want the truth...wrapped in love of course. :)

However, if he always made commets and held me up to some high supermodel standard, that would be out of line and not loving. I think issues should usually only be brought up IF the spouse asks.

I asked my husband, "what would you do if I got fat and asked you if I was still attractive?"

He said he'd cut right to the point and ask me if *I* thought I was attractive, because obviously if I'm asking I wouldn't find myself attractive, and we'd find a solution to the problem.

I face this almost on a daily basis.
I tell him that I definately think he is attractive, but that I know he doesn't feel good about his weight (just a tiny bit extra, btw...can hardly notice). I let him know that if he wants to start eating healthier, I will help him, but if he stops eating again and starts with those scary diet pills, I will be turning him in to his superiors so that he can get counseling before he damages his health.
Oh, how he answered this when I was pregnant:
"You have a really lovely face."
Wrong answer.

Ya know I really thought this would be the Popular answer not "Lie to your Spouses Face" ... ahahah I guess everyone just likes the way I worded that one better.

I should of put more Ghetto Slang in the other choices as well.
