the fact that the topic of sex ends up to be embarrassing doesn't make a tabù itself: it's a cultural superstructure. Why don't you go up to some kid while they are with their parents and start explaining about sex and then see if they feel it is no different than talking about trains.
Then you turn around and say you can't talk to your parents about sex ?
YOU SHOULD NOT BE TALKING TO OTHER PEOPLES KIDS ABOUT SEX, PERIOD. IT IS CALLED CROSSING THE LINE.
inform and advice are 2 different things?
if a 16 yo came to me asking what a condom is, i'd tell him. if he asked me if in my opinion he should have sex for the first time, i'd tell him that i could not know, or something like that.
the reason why parents (most of them) are not the best people for this is because (prudes or not) they don't like to see their kids grow up and even get to know about sex. if a kid is one of those lucky ones who feel comfortable talking to his parents about sex, good for him. my 15 yo sister prefers to talk with me about these things and nobody ever thought that i was crossing any line.
