Yeah, he did. He knew that the transitional between Panderichthys and Acanthostega had to be in sediment that had an age between those two species. That is exactly the type of sediment that he found the transitional in. He used the theory to find sediment of the right age.

Not even close, the result of your alternatives would be exactly the same if there was 1 designer working alone or 100 designers working together. But even before going into that you have to show why appearance of design is evidence for a designer.

The neat little pictures with all the layers mapped out looks like the way things would die and get buried if the flood waters started in the bottom of the ocean by subduction and then killed things on the way up. Sea animals and sea plants getting killed first. Land animals getting killed and buried last.

We have been over this before. Why do you think you would have thousands of feet of fossils without thousands of feet of life?
How far down a particular stratum depends on how much local deposition occurred, how much erosion, uplift etc..
