  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You've never observed an ape evolving to a man. Come to your senses already.

You never saw a wolf evolve into a dog.

You've never seen an atom split.

You've never seen a virus infect someone.

You've never seen the Earth revolve around the Sun.

You've never seen a proton.

You've never seen the center of the Earth.

Heck, you've never seen your own brain working.

What's wrong with this statement from a mentality point of view?

What's wrong is your statement is meaningless.

If I submitted "an empty tomb" as an answer, but said I didn't know where the tomb was, would your mindset automatically say I'm wrong?

Why does yours automatically say you're right?

If I submitted the Shroud of Turin as an answer, would your mindset automatically cause you to ROFL?

Not automatically, but based on the facts that the Shroud is a known forgery...

And more red herrings you desperately need us to chase for you?

Does that mean that SD has never observed an ape evolving into a man? That was my point. Claiming to have observed it is a false statement.

Maybe he was playing with words as he often does to get around the
facts. Because he will probably come back and try to explain that what he really
meant was not really "we have observed it".

It's not about believing at all. And there is no flesh being burnt from bones.
Where do you get this stuff?

How dishonest of him to suggest such a thing! I guess Hell is a perfectly pleasant place that would not frighten children into compliance then. Because being "tormented day and night forever and ever (Rev 20:10) is alright as long as there is no flesh burning going on.

Way to avoid the point that was being made, as usual.

If the continental separation and uplift occurred around the same time as the Grand Canyon being formed, we would need to do more than model slow present state processes.

Way to snip out a section of the bible verse that applies to the false prophet, devil and the beast and try to apply it to unsaved people.

Rev. 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

Hell is separation from God and heaven. Like being in jail. I am sure those people are tormented but not actual "tormented". It just isn't a nice place to be.

Cool. So an atheist such as me who, according to you, is going to Hell has absolutely nothing to fear as I already feel no connection to God.

Apparently you don't fear a jail sentence either so you may
as well go out and rob and pillage.

Atheists tend not to fear a jail sentence since they tend not to break the laws.

The prisons are full of Christians and Muslims. Atheists are hugely underrepresented in prison. Atheists are over 5% of the population as a whole and a fraction of a percent of the prison population in the U.S..

If you don't trust me you can check the statistics for yourself.

Silly. I assume you're just being spiteful because it bugs you that I wouldn't give a damn about your Hell even if it were an eternity of burning instead of being cut off from something I am already cut off from.

I certainly don't want to go to jail and be cut off from those I love. But that isn't really pertinent. You're likening Hell to jail in the sense that I would be cut off from God. But I don't even think God exists, much less love Him.

Why should I fear Hell if the worst it can muster is the life I'm already enjoying?

Converted Christians and Muslims after the fact? You are being dishonest with the facts again to further your attack. Best check yourself. It may be that you are not fully in control.

Aren't you going to tell me why I should fear Hell? I'm honestly curious.

Well, fear is an emotional response to danger

To real (or at least perceived as real) dangers, that is.

You'd probably be surprised to learn that this sign doesn't discourage many people:

so I will leave you with these images.

Uh, thanks for explaining what fear is. I'm guessing that you are realizing that based on your understanding of Hell there is absolutely nothing for me to fear. Otherwise you would presumably have actually explained what I have to worry about by now. I really wish you'd give it a try. I mean threatening my with fire and torment is one thing, threatening me with not getting to be connected to God is quite another.

Also, are you planning to come back to your Fig Wasp thread? I outlined my points just as you requested, but you seem to be avoiding them still.

Actually I am realizing that some people ask the most ridiculous questions and I am sort of waiting for the other shoe to drop.

If you like isolation, being unable to leave and do what you want, being uncomfortable and in a worse place than earth, then more power to you. I would not wish that kind of existence on anyone.

But as we have pointed out your beliefs are a myth. When Hindus make the same sort of claims as you do you would be quick to point out that there beliefs are not based upon reality. The same applies to you.

There's no other shoe. The question I'm asking is the one I want an answer to. It's about 95% curiosity with about 5% amusement that you can't provide and answer. Why should I fear Hell? All I have is your insistence that it is "uncomfortable" and "the worst place on earth". But the only punishment you say goes on is that I won't be connected to God, which I already am not and am enjoying just fine. So why should I fear Hell? It's okay to admit that there is absolutely no reason, even if it bugs you that what you consider to be terrifying holds not even a wisp of a threat to me.
