  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That's because you have the wrong ideas about my God.

No I don't. I used to follow the same God. You just don't recognize the illogical aspects you ascribe to him.

If we aren't capable of refraining from sinning then why isn't everyone killing each other?

Can anyone live a perfect life, or not? The Bible says all have sinned. If it was possible that we could refrain from sinning, then surely one of the many many billions of humans would have done so by now...but you know that's impossible, anyway, because that would make the Bible a lie.

Is it possible to refrain from CERTAIN sins? Yes, of course. Is it possible to refrain from all sin?

Everyone has free will.

Certainly (although there are some neuroscience findings which argue against this), but not because it was given to us by a creator who created the universe exactly the way he wanted it.

It is not possible for an eternal God to die. But if he became human like us then he could die. Which he did.

Like I said, you do not recognize the illogical aspects of your god.

A thirty-ish year human life would be utterly meaningless to an eternal being.

And that brings up another illogical claim that most Christians hold: Jesus was 100% man and 100% god.

Mono means one. You've got three. :p:p:p

Actually, I heard an interesting discussion the other day talking about the old religions of that time, and that it had become popular for some of them to claim a "head" god, which ruled over a bunch of lesser gods. That's not new to me, of course, but what was is that these lesser gods' power was consistent with what angels and demons of the Bible can do.

So this speaker was saying that Judaism/Christianity is every bit as polytheistic as those other "pagan" religions.

Certainly might explain a few odd references to god in the Bible.

Anyway, not claiming it's true; just anecdotal. I'm gonna have to look into it more, though, out of curiosity.

I think It would take a bit more than that to convince other religions.
That was meant for you and 46.

Are you admitting atheism is a religion?

I would assume other religions already know we are monotheists, without that Shield of the Trinity.

AV, do you wish to influence people's perspective on these topics? Or are you just sharing your thoughts without caring the outcome? Serious question... I know some Christians believe they do their bit (talking) and the HS does the rest (convincing). Others believe God would have them doing the convincing themselves using logic etc.

Just wondering which side of that fence you are on.
