In the context that Lucy used shock therapy- I believe she meant that the girl could be left to learn lessons the hard way- on her own. Shock therapy actually is electric shock therapy that is used for depression in the shopital.
I think that some good advice has been given. Although your neice is not emotionally mature at 20, her partents are not helping by forcing her to remain. I think that Jesus gave the parable of the prodigal son especially for partents to understand that our children's bad choices are theirs to make. As parents it is very difficult for us to stand back and let them hurt themself. As parents all we want is to make the way easy for them. Sometimes that is not going to be the answer. There are certain people who can not learn something unless the do it them self. We can preach to them, explain to them, yell at them, and they still do not get the lesson. I have a son who is like this. He makes his life much harder than it needs to be, but I have to trust that God is faithful and will answer my prayers for his salvation and protection.

Joe, is this by any chance your daughter? You seem very pained by this situation. I don't see your arguements as pitiful, but perhaps somewhat desperate. I can imagine that her parents feel desperate.

i agree with lucy... they are going to have to let her go and do what she chooses. my mom had to do it for me and i turned out ok in the end. i think they are being too protective in not allowing her to be responsible for herself. she will continue to act the way she does until she is 90 if they dont give her the space to experiment and make her own decisions. sounds harsh but reality and experience are the best teachers for hard headed stubborn immature people.

Thanks a lot ! I appreciate your concern and help. I will tell my uncle what you have said here. Please keep her in your prayer. For Evening Mist, she is not cousin. But, yes, somewhat i feel pained and sad to see their family going through this. We were very closed when we were little.
