When part of a group criticizes its leadership publicly the whole group loses untiy and it looks like it to outsiders. When Pope Benedict was chosen the local Jesuits from their university were on the radio publicly criticizing the Pope. As a Catholic it embarrassed me to hear such talk. I can't imagine what nonCatholics thought of it.

Funny enough very few consider Protestants schismatics.

Protestants protest, Schismatics schism. Though both divisive spirits there is a subtle difference but a difference nonetheless.

Peace.

Hi my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ

They're kinda, well....

I come from a VERY Catholic upbringing and the Jesuits creep me out. Here is an exerpt from their oath:

furthermore promise and declare that I will, when opportunity present, make and wage relentless war, secretly or openly, against all heretics, Protestants and Liberals, as I am directed to do, to extirpate and exterminate them from the face of the whole earth; and that I will spare neither age, sex or condition; and that I will hang, waste, boil, flay, strangle and bury alive these infamous heretics, rip up the stomachs and wombs of their women and crush their infants' heads against the walls, in order to annihilate forever their execrable race. That when the same cannot be done openly, I will secretly use the poisoned cup, the strangulating cord, the steel of the poniard or the leaden bullet, regardless of the honor, rank, dignity, or authority of the person or persons, whatever may be their condition in life, either public or private, as I at any time may be directed so to do by any agent of the Pope or Superior of the Brotherhood of the Holy Faith, of the Society of Jesus

Why do people believe any old thing they stumble upon on the internet? there is plenty of factual information available.

pretty sad.

The funny thing about the Dominican vs. Jesuit joke is that the Jesuits were NOT created to get rid of Protestantism and I don't think the Dominicans were created to get rid of Albigensianism.
Otherwise the order was not built around a special charism.
I suggest reading "A Pilgrims Testament"...

And also...why was this bumped up from 2005?

Pope Urges Orders to Rediscover Original Charism

Offers Key to Overcoming Vocation Crisis

VATICAN CITY, FEB. 19, 2008 (Zenit.org).- The key for religious orders, congregations and institutes to overcome a crisis of vocations is for them to live their love for Christ without concessions and to rediscover the original spirituality of their founder, says Benedict XVI.

This was the advice the Pope gave Monday to the executive committee of the International Union of Superiors General, who were meeting in the Vatican to reflect on "some particularly relevant and important aspects of consecrated life."

In his address, which was published today by the Vatican, the Holy Father said: "We are all aware how, in modern globalized society, it is becoming ever more difficult to announce and bear witness to the Gospel. The process of secularization that is advancing in contemporary culture does not, unfortunately, spare even religious communities."

"Nonetheless," he added, "we must not be discouraged, because if -- as has been said -- many clouds are gathering on the horizon of religious life today, there also exist -- indeed they are constantly growing -- signs of a providential reawakening which gives rise to consolation and hope."

The Pontiff continued: "The Holy Spirit blows powerfully throughout the Church, creating a new commitment to faithfulness, both in the historical institutes and, at the same time, in new forms of religious consecration that reflect the needs of the times.

"What characterizes these new forms of consecrated life is a shared desire [...] for a radical form of evangelical poverty, for faithful love of the Church, and for generous dedication to the needy with particular attention to that spiritual poverty which so markedly characterizes the modern age."
