This is another thing like the poll question where I'm afraid to take the statement at face value, but that's a sometimes criminal offense similar to contempt of court.

Hardly. Nixon would not have resigned without them, and we would otherwise never have experienced the Ford presidency (and probably subsequently the Carter one, as well).

I believe Nixon was a competent but corrupt president; obviously he needed to go. Carter's election was a reaction to corruption. People wanted an honest man who wasn't tainted by Watergate OR by pardoning Nixon. Then they discovered that an honest man isn't necessarily the best Presidential material out there.

I think we could have done without Ford or Carter. (Also Bush, Clinton, BUsh, Obama, but that's a different story.)

Nixon was never impeached. He resigned before it ever got to that. Clinton was impeached but the important thing that people seem to forget is that impeachment is the trial and not the actual removal of the president. Clinton was impeached and acquitted of both charges.

I don't think Nixon would have had as much luck.
