I was graciously invited to visit an associate's church. He attends a Word of Fatih church and he says the services are amazing. He's seen people miraculously healed of cancer and other various afflictions and ailments. We got on the topic of faith healing and the Charismatic movement when he asked me if I was ready for Christmas and then I joked about all I needed to do now was avoid the flu (we now have an epidemic here in Georgia and four children have died so far.) He told me there was surefire way to avoid the flu and that was 1 Peter 2:24. I remembered my former boss reciting that verse to me and laying hands on me and praying over me anytime I felt like I was coming down with something. Sometimes my faith wasn't strong enough and I got sick anyway but many other times I was healed, so I have faith in the healing aspect of the Charismatic movement.

I would love to attend but I've had some bad experiences with people who professed to be members of the Charismatic church so I'm a bit leary. Is there anything I should know before I go? Are there any special practices or ceremonies the Charismatic church holds that I need to know about? I have never prayed in tongues before, is that okay? I have so many questions so any help you can give me would be great.

God bless!

What do you want to know ... can do it privately or here ... ?
1. word of faith is fundamental ... what book says is what it means literally
out of the mouth of 2-3 witnesses :
Mat 18:16 But if he will not hear [thee, then] take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.

2Cr 13:1 This [is] the third [time] I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.

1Ti 5:19 Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.

Hbr 10:28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

Here are the 2 remaining inexact matches:

Deu 17:6 At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; [but] at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.

Deu 19:15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

2. Isaiah 53.3 , Matthew 8.17 , 1 Peter 2-14 ( 3 witnesses , same thought = doctrine or principle ) " by His stripes you were healed , past tense , so if you were healed by the work of the cross , you are healed by receiving the work Jesus did , by your confession of faith ( Mark 11.23-4 speak to this mountain , be removed ; 1 John 5.14-18 speak and believe , will have what you say ) ... as your prayers are answered , so your faith in bigger things will grow , as God confirms His word ( Mark 16.20 ; Isaiah
55.10 ).

3. WOF take Mark 16.16.20 literally , that the laying on of hands , contact , the prayer of faith can and will make a difference ( kinda like Gallager and the sledge o matic .... it is just that easy with ".... " )

4. some WOF meetings are like a typical Methodist , Baptist , Assemblies of God ,
Four Square Gospel , service : a homily , the Word explained line by line and precept upon precept :
Isa 28:10 For precept [must be] upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, [and] there a little:

Isa 28:13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, [and] there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

5. some WOF meetings are entirely praise and worship .... some thing in your shoes besides your feet , the Glory of the Lord within the building , people laughing , crying , falling ..... prostrating themselves upon the floor , speaking in tongues , and others giving an interpretation ...

6. go like the publican , sit in the back , with an open mind , and listen to what is said
a. is there a peace in your heart ? Only God can bring peace
b. do the people make an effor to make you welcome .... go again
c. do the people offer to pray , assist , help .... take them up on offer
d. is it a bit wild and unfamiliar .... we all have a comfort zone

7. there are usually places for children to be ministered to separately , same word
a little different presentation , as per age and " wiggle factor " ... how long they
can sit still and focus
a. infant care
b. toddlers
c. preschool
d. grade school
e. junior hight
f. high school

8. WOF is not for everyone .... but if you can pick up some thing , and take it with
you to your home church or parents church or day to day life .... could you not
be used as a match to set aflame some dead wood ?
a. that when you pray , God hears and answers you - Psalm 118.5
b. that you can speak to colds , flu , bad dreams to go and not return
c. that you can over come bad thoughts and temptations
d. that you can pray for your family , children , loved ones
e. that you are a child of God , who can do what you have been called to do
f. that all God's babies , have a purpose , are special , worth raising up

Hi. I was raised Baptist, and ended up in the Assemblies of God church. Talk about a BIG change, lol. My advice is, just go, and let the Lord teach you and touch you. It was like a whole new world to me after being raised Baptist. The freedom in worshipping the Lord is AWESOME. As far as tongues go, don't worry about it. I didn't speak in tongues when I first went, and it was about 6 months later when I was baptised in the Holy Spirit. I had to get that teaching first, to know what He was giving me, lol. Just go, and enjoy .

That's all great information, thanks. I pray that when I go there will be people filled with the Holy Spirit. I would love going to a church where if I felt lead by the Spirit to kneel on the floor and pray or to cry that I could do so openly and not feel as if I were interrupting the service.

I grown up reformed and almost completely rejected church and God and now I'm charismatic/pentecostal and living for Christ!

No church is completely perfect. ... yet
That does not matter. You can still add value.

The most important thing is not the church or healing or whatever. It is your relationship with God!

Go for Jesus not for man. If you don't speak in tongues should have nothing to do with it. Most likely they will be raising there hands and might shout alittle. I don't like the names we put on "Charismatic movement, WOF blah blah" me I have a relationship with Jesus Christ. The best thing is if it's in the Word then believe it it not then get out of there fast. Just talk to Jesus and tell him about it and expict him to answer for he really loves us.

Jesus I am so in love with you.

Faith is a gift from God, we will get sick from time to time regardless of our prayers. And when we do it has nothing to do with the size, shape, or quality of your faith at the time.

If I get sick and prayed for healing, than what? Say my faith was weak? How much faith does it take to get God to heal you? God tests and stretches our faith; he wants us to grow. He does not punish us for the development of our faith, nor does He use a yard stick.

 I have faith in the healing aspects of Jesus Christ, not in one particular Christian sect or another.

Hmm...
I can't find that in my bible, is this just a personal opinion, based on your viewpoint?

When Paul prayed for healing . . .

2 CO 12:7-10
Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

This is not my forum, so this is just a friendly suggestion and I hope the mods here concur.
This thread was started by msjones21 to receive info about what to expect at a certain church. Let's not turn this into a debate about healing and WOF. Let's answer the OP and move any debate about healing or WOF out to another thread!
OK?

Thanks
