I am seeing a show in a couple weeks and one of my family members purchased the tickets for me. I know I should have researched the show before hand but the tickets were bought in a rush and I did not have time to do some research. Some people that I know have seen the show before that are christian and had no issues with it. I was researching more about it and saw some unbiblical themes like the repeated use of profanity. Im not sure what to do. If God is telling me not go to this I do not want to but I cant afford to pay the person back for the ticket they got me. What should I do in this situation?

Which show is it (title of the movie or show)? You can tell the family member that the show does not align with your beliefs, and just skip the show. You do not have to repay your family member. God can forgive you of that.

It is Hamilton. Idk how they would feel about that though because it was very expensive, and it would not be fair if they lost out on a lot of money.

Hamilton is a play (a good one from what I have heard), and yes, plays are very expensive. I'd say go, and if halfway through the play, the show becomes rough, you can leave, and pay half of the ticket back to your family member.

Here's what I can say about Hamilton, after having seen the play once and having played the soundtrack a bazillion times.

1. Language: The f-word is used twice, as I recall. Miranda is wise enough to use the word sparingly, so that it carries genuine emphasis when it is used. The name of God is used a few times (again, not often). "D---" occurs a couple of times.

2. There is a portion of the play that deals profoundly with sin and forgiveness.

3. The play is an amazing piece of art that has insightful things to say about human beings and the ways humans interact with each other.

4. There are places where characters fight with each other, either verbally or physically. One event is the thing you probably know about Alexander Hamilton if you don't know anything else about him. It's not gory-blood-and-guts, but the play does take place during the American Revolution.

For me, I'm willing to live with a bit of language, in light of points #2 and #3 above. I think the play is one of the best ones I have seen. But you'll have to make your own judgment.

I saw a movie where the "f" word occurred more often, it could seem than any other word. It was used in a variety of contexts and senses so it could have been awarded best supporting actor . . . in that film.

Would I have it acting in one of my writings or films? No.

Have I watched "language" movies with family or friends? Yes.
